Default Why are the Flames so boring?

Seriously, this team has no electricity or spark to their game. Gaudreau and Monahan are invisible. Hell, the best rush tonight was led by Matt Bartkowski. I look around the league and see so many amazing up-tempo offenses led by guys no more talented than the Flames', where guys are putting up five-point nights routinely. Scoring is supposed to be up overall -- and how many times have the Flames scored three goals in a game over the last month? Once, maybe twice?

It's unbearable. Can't stand it. Why is this happening? I've never been so bored by a hockey team, not since the Brent years.

Great question, coming from you no less.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this considering you have been adamant that you fully back the coach and his system in the other threads.

The coaching is the problem, system seems to be holding the team back.
GG goes asap to save the season.

The Flames have enough talent to push the play against 2/3 of the league easily, but this system is like Darrell Sutter's without the physical play.

Opposing teams have zero to worry about playing against Gilligan's "system"

Again I find myself surprised GG takes so much heat.

Honest question; do the Flames have a single elite player?

Pro tip, wrapping a dishonest question in a honest wrapper doesn’t make it stink any less....

They have Gaudreau, Giordano, that are clearly upper echelon and smith has had plenty of games where he's Elite level.

This is a WAY better roster than what Hartley had.

Does Vegas, Jersey, Columbus , NYR, Carolina, Nashville or Minny ? Cause they are all ahead of us!

Looking at those teams and I can’t find someone I would trade JG for!

I blame Treliving. He's redoing what Sutter has done for years - get greedy on defence and build from the net out. There's absolutely no depth up front in scoring and too much emphasis on defence. Hence, low scoring games and points given up on nearly most of the games played thus far.

Treliving goes out to get Hamonic while the Ducks goes out to get Henrique. It's like a WTF moment! I'd do what the Ducks have done any day over the Hamonic one. I wouldn't be surprised if the Flames ended looking more or less like the Coyotes - frickin boring and going nowhere.

We have three solid lines capable of scoring, but team scoring has dried up completely. Offensive depth isn't the issue, scoring is, and that's in big part due to the system.

The defence is not involved enough in creating offense. Look at NSH. Similarly constructed team but way more entertaining. They aren't trying for 2-1 games. Laviolette preaches aggressive play.

It's mindset.
