A bunch of my cousins and friends(about 20 of them) of theirs got removed from a US plane by the FBI once.
They were on their way to Vegas from England for a Stag when their plane made a surprise landing near Maine(IIRC).

They were escorted off the plane by armed agents and then questioned for a few hours before being released.
However United Airlines refused to fly them any further and they had to rent some Vans to drive the rest of the way.

The airline tried to say they were causing a disturbance, but they have many witnesses proving otherwise and they weren't even all seated together.

Pretty unbelievable what can be done under the patriot act. None of these guys were even Muslim, just brown.

The lawsuit is still pending

the redneck comment was just stating a point that its just as stupid to assume that as it is this....

I have started to research .. and i hope to find the answers i am lookin for....

No, that is not how the "common" man thinks. The far greater majority of all peoples all over the world are very tolerant and open to and respect the religions or whatever of other peoples. It is the fundamentalist, the die hard fundamentalists on both sides that throw coal into the fire. They are the ones who believe they are the only ones who are right and everyone else should be like them.

I have researched religion, I do know about the Muslim faith, not as much as one who practises the Muslim faith of course, but I know some of the basic tenets. And I have no problem with the Muslim faith, as practised within the norms of the Muslim religion. It, like most other religions, teaches love and respect and acceptance of the common man. But as with any religion, if taken to the extreme, it will not fit into the accepted practise of most people.

Most religions are far more alike than they are different. Sure, we might call ourselves by different names, ie Muslim, Catholic, Protestant, etc, we might say God, we might say Allah, we might say Jehovah. Who the hell cares? Not me. Most religions have basic practises within their religions, such as marraige, burial, birth and baptism etc. So what if each religion practises them somewhat differently. For instance, I am Lutheran, surely I must hate Catholics? Right? Wrong!!! Who cares if we confirm our children at 14 and the Catholics at 8? This is such a very small difference in the whole scope of things, it is just tooooooooooo silly to make a big issue of it.

So please dont say that the reaction of the people on the airplane, the flight attendants, people on this CP chat site are "red necked" ignorant people. We are not. I would wager that 99% of us have no problem with people who pray, with witnessing people praying, with people who practise their religion in any way. But we do have a problem doing it within the confines of an airplane where we have no choice of leaving if we are not comfortable with it. Most people will be uncomfortable with some things in life, that does not make them "rednecks", "bigots" etc. All we are saying is that if you draw attention to yourself in any way, and in this case it happened to be religion, dont be surprised when there are consequences to that behaviour.

They had to drive from Maine to Vegas? It must have been a hell of a stag party.

I heard on a talk radio station last night that these guys were escorted off in hand cuffs. It was suggested that that was done because they refused to step out of the plane at the captains request. It's possible that what could have been a couple words from the Pilot turned into a 5 hour integration because of their initial reaction. Part of me wonders if these actions weren't planned by these Muslim leaders in order to push for more special prayer rooms at airports. It also is a good tactic to portray yourself as a victim. We see this lots in the news from middle east.

We live in Canada and you are asking if people have religious freedoms anymore?

Most of the senior members on this board are anti Christianity - why should any other religion be any different.

An airline is a private business and should be allowed to ban religious gestures while you are using their service, and before you jump on me over about praying, if you sit in your seat, close your eyes and fold your hands, its a bit different than speaking out loud and kneeling and bowing.

What I dont like about the story is the fact that US Air banned them from flying and they had to take NW to their final destination. I dont mind saying I am sorry you cant do that on the flight and then rebooking them but banning, that is just bad busiess practice/press.

This may be more an 'ignorant scared mob' mentality than racial.

Yes, racial profiling does happen at airports (among many other places) and the airlines take no chances and could care less about your civil rights (until someone succesfully sues them).

A Jewish man in religious garb was escorted off of an Air Canada flight last August for "vigorus praying" -he was moving in his seat, like nodding with your shoulders. A 'concerned' passenger pointed him out and off he went.

You make one wrong move and you will find yourself off the plane regardless of where it has to land at your expense and then you will likely be added to the 'no-fly' list.

Stewar....umm....flight attendants are the new absolute power, and we know where that will lead.

Hey, maybe anyone who wants to pray in flight should fly El-AL or Royal Jordanian - they know the scoop.
