I'm more curious about how Babcock is feeling. Like on those house shows Babcock walks in and thinks "yeah! New counter tops, replace the carpet, easy fixes!" and then gets a home inspection after buying and they say "there are foundation issues... and black mold... and termites..."

Toronto might ruin his legacy.

I'm sure being the highest paid coach of all time softens the blow of a ruined legacy somewhat.

Money's great and all but getting fired after 4 non-playoff seasons with 100 combined wins (or whatever) would seriously tarnish his legacy. Babcock strikes me as a person who cares about such things.

Absolutely. But again, the dough and his winning pedigree thus far will soften the blow of not winning in Toronto. He knows hes one of the best, and so does everyone else.

Babcock doesn't put the team together, the GM does (I think? I have a tough time imagining Toronto GMs having autonomy from owners/execs).

The Leafs are a flawed team; if they miss the playoffs it's not Babcock's fault. If they make it though, he gets the Jack Adams. It'll take a brilliant bit of coaching to drag that lot into the post season.

I notice the hype machine is in full force in Toronto. The fact that the Matthew's goal in the Team NA game is 1v1 champion is laughable. Any other person doing that move, and it wouldn't even register as a Hon candidate. But as soon as Matthews does it, it's like he invented hockey.

However, that shouldn't distract us from discussing just how pompous Leafs fans are. I don't understand how every year they think every star player is making their way to Toronto and winning the Cup.

Their reaction to "winning" the draft lottery and getting Matthews this year was an embarrassment on par with the Oilers. Just disgusting.
