I know, but this year GG experimented a bit with top line v. top line. The last month or so he's gone back to Backlund versus top line.

No, I don't want to hear your opinion.
I don't mind opinions. I just don't need to hear it over and over and over...
The ignore feature saves me from that.

What's really exciting to me is the chemistry between he and Bennett. That gives us Johnny/Monahan, Backlund/Frolik, Jankowski/Bennett with real solid options on the right to move around. That's a far better situation than before
|
How can you think that after watching Backlund develop? He's a completely different player than he was at 23.

I thought Chucky looked really good with Janko and Bennett - wouldn't mind seeing him and Hathaway switch lines for a few games to see how it goes

So it seems to me that if you think GG isn't doing a good job and needs to be fired, you should be put on the ignore list. Maybe that's not what he meant, but it's how it came across. Also, note the sarcastic use of "experts". Apparently, we who are not fans of GG (to put it lightly) have no knowledge of hockey...Ok, then.
|
Yeah, in hindsight I shouldn't have thrown "experts" in there. I can see why that word might get a negative response.
Anyway, nothing personal against the guys that can't stand GG. I just don't agree that's all.

Easy. It's not that he can't, as you point out Backlund did it. It's that it's unusual at his age. He certainly will improve as he gets acclimated to the NHL game, but it'll more likely be incremental. My point is more: if he was a 19 year old doing this vs 23, my future expectations are much different.

Chucky is going to outgrow the 3M line. Too much offensive talent to waste on that line forever

The other thing that looked interesting, is I don't see them with the top D pairing as much, though I haven't looked to see if that is true or not

I suppose, although he has shown progression every year so far, and not just incremental. He has high IQ and has Jagr and the aforementioned Backlund showing him the ropes this year. Until he actually plateaus, he looks to me like he has room to grow his game.

Nobody should be capping Jankowski's game just yet. Yes, he's 23, but he's the prototypical "late bloomer" so he should be treated more like a 20 year old in terms of development timeline. Similar to seeing Ferland breakout later because he started playing hockey later, Jankowski didn't sprout into his body until he was in his draft year, and he kept growing after that. It takes time to get used to that new frame.
Plus, Jankowski shows at each and every level that he can learn something new and improve. I wouldn't be shocked at all to see him improve substantially in the next 2 years. By 25, you probably have a nearly finished product, but even guys at that age click into a higher gear.
But even if all he ever turns into is what he currently is, well I'm just fine with that. The guy already contributes quite a bit to the lineup each and every night in all situations as a center. That's already a homerun pick for late in the 1st round.

We have some great youth on this team right now. Chucky, Bennett, Janko, Rittich and let's not forget JG is still young even though it seems he's been around forever. Hopefully this team is allowed to grow together. As that happens we should see a nice outcome for everyone. I am one of the few that wouldn't mind trading for Kane and letting him drive the PP. We have young talent to bring up to replace whoever goes, and our PP could be much better for it. This is assuming Kane isn't still a total dbag and has changed a little.

Flames scoring leaders are Gaudreau (13-27-40), Monahan (17-13-30) and Tkachuk (7-13-20). Ages 24, 23 and 20 respectively, Calgary joins Florida (Trochek, Huberdeau, Barkov) and Nashville (Forsberg, Fiala, Arvidsson) as the only teams whose top three scorers are all under age 25.

I'll give the Flames credit that was a game they had to win and they dominated from start to finish it was nice to see them get rewarded with hard work on the scoreboard but keep in mind that was Vancouver's American hockey team lineup. if they can string together that kind of effort consistently then maybe I'll think this team has turned the corner but until then all we did was beat a very very very bad hockey team.

I apologise if my posts came across as an attack on you or something, it certainly wasn't my intention. I just feel that people should be able to voice their opinions (even if it's criticism) regardless if the Flames win or lose. That's all.
To stay on topic, am I the only one who would like to see Rittich get a few consecutive starts? Nothing against Smith but he's really impressed me.

That's exactly what they've done. Over the last 7 or so game the results haven't always been there but the effort sure has.

Cool! Honourable mention to the Blue Jackets whose top 7 scorers are 25 and under. Panarin, Bjorkstrand, Anderson, Werenski, Jones, Wennberg, Dubois.
