Nice to see him turn it around after a tough start to the season.

Tonight marked his first PP point of the season if I'm not mistaken.
Five on five? Among the group of players in the league with 300+ 5-on-5 minutes played, here are where Flames forwards rank in 5v5points/60 minutes:
1st Line Production (Top 93)
Gaudreau - 2.65 (16th)
Monahan - 2.44 (31st)
Bennett - 2.19 (57th)
2nd Line Production (top 186)
Jankowski - 1.97 (94th)
Ferland - 1.87 (115th)
Tkachuk - 1.58 (161st)
Backlund - 1.49 (173rd)
3rd Line Production (top 279)
(!!!!!!!!!!!) Brouwer - 1.14 (227th)
Frolik - 1.04 (242nd)
Jagr missed the ice time cutoff, but his 1.74 P/60 would rank around 2nd line production and Hathaway, in a small sample size, is the 5th most productive player in the league at 3.12 P/60 (...unsustainable, but that's okay)
Basically, if this team would just utilize its defensemen, we'd likely be a strong offensive team. The insistence on 3-on-5 offense is pretty frustrating, although tonight Giordano actually jumped into the play to some results which was a relief.
Now let's compare Sam to the 5v5 P/60 of his draftmates:
Draisaitl - 2.32
Pastrnak - 2.28
Bennett - 2.19
Larkin - 2.03
Ehlers - 1.8
Nylander - 1.61
Reinhart - 0.9
He's doing pretty well for himself, consideriing he's not playing with McDavid, or Marchand/Bergeron, or Matthews, or Laine.

people complaining about Bennett should take a quick look at the 2014 draft class because it could be A LOT worse. It's understandable that Canucks fans are pissed that they took Virtanen over Ehlers and Nylander, but man, imagine the Isles fans. Dal Colle still hasn't played in an NHL game (I struggle to think of another top 5 pick that didn't at least make the NHL 3 years into his career) and has 3 goals in 26 AHL games this season. That one looks like an epic bust.

Hopefully Sam lets us forget how bad Brads first draft really was, out of 7 picks Sam is likely the only one to ever see NHL ice, even the once highly touted but now traded Hickey is doubtful.

It's Calgary boy Thomas Hickey - drafted 4th overall 2007, first NHL game January 27, 2013 almost 6 years after being drafted. One full WHL season, another almost full WHL season (7 AHL games), and then 3 1/2 AHL seasons (one cut short by injury) before making the NHL. Still has the 29th most games played of any 2007 draft pick.

No, he also had it right. Coming into a thread where we dominate and win and spewing a bunch of GG is no good crap to rain on the parade. ng.

There are legitimate concerns about GGs coaching.
A convincing win against the Canucks B team doesn't magically make GGs deficiencies disappear. It's good to get 2 points, but people can still have concerns over coaching.

this has likely been mentioned, but watching brock bessor (sp) get to the bench was gutsy and funny all at the same time.

The pirouette half way to the bench provided the comic relief.

You know, in 10 years on this site, I've never made use of the Ignore function. Not one time. This season, with all the experts on how we need to fire GG and his staff, I finally put it to work. Let me tell you, it's a wondrous thing. It really has increased my enjoyment when reading these threads.

So, you don't want to hear anybody else's opinion? Unless you think GG is brilliant, everything is peachy and great, the Flames are the best team in the universe, people's opinions aren't worth reading?

Sometimes we can't explain why players are hot and cold. This time I think we can!

Hathaway is an interesting guy. He sure doesn't pass the eye test and seems like he puts himself in position to get rocked every game, but he's certainly producing.

Back on topic Jankowski is going to be a beast in the next few years. I wonder how John Weisbrod is feeling knowing he had a major hand in selecting him and he is doing pretty well.
