So many dwelling on things they hate, just thought I’d throw in some of the awesome stuff...

1) BB8 trying to fix the X wing blasters. Seeing a little droid panic and basically ram his head into the circuit board made the theatre laugh. Follow that up with him saying “Finn Water leaking” and Poe thinking his circuits are scrabbled, only to see Finn actually like that.

2) Luke on the Falcon. Having that moment with R2D2, the original message that sparked the whole thing. Great scene

3) Chewbacca and those little birds made me laugh.

4) The entire scene with Yoda. Was smiling ear to ear. Cranky and old is the best.

5) loved how every time you expected a scene to play out one way, it went the other. Luke throwing the lightsaber behind him, Finn shutting down the reactor, Leia shooting Poe, the rebels escaping. Always seemed to play out different then I expected.

6) Rey and Rens battle in the chamber following the Betrayal of Snoak.Great stuff.

Was there some bad scenes and cheese? Yes. It is a Star Wars movie, they all have that.

Flying through hyperspace isn’t like dusting crops. You can’t just hop into you crop duster and dust on through a command ship.

I was really excited to see yoda when he first appeared but was left disappointed with how they portrayed him. Although this did make me hope they bring back Ewan Mcgregor as a force ghost obiwan, I know he’s not Alec Guinness so he wouldn’t look the same as when obiwan died but his performance in the prequels was the only real consistent saving grace so IMO he deserves to be in a decent Star Wars movie.(assuming the next movie doesn’t continue with the same trend as episode 8)

I mostly liked the story, although I found parts like the scene in Snokes thrown room with Kylo and Rey to be too predictable.

My guess is the next movie is set at least a few months or even years after this one.

I like that they brought Yoda back, but I don’t like the part with the lightning and I felt he didn’t look like the same Yoda.
I wish Snoke was used more, supposedly more powerful than Darth Vader yet dies so easily. No origin story or anything either. Should’ve kept him for episode 9, I was expecting to him have an Emperor like story.
Luke’s character was misused. Should’ve shown him fighting, should’ve kept him for episode 9.
Rey’s parentage was so boring, I was really hoping for her to be a Kenobi or Palpatine or someone not too obvious, but important to the story.
Kylo’s bad to almost good to bad wasn’t the best

Overall I think it was a good movie that made a lot of mistakes if that makes sense. Episode 9 is important because they seem to be opening up lots of possibilities, but they’ve gotten rid of the Skywalker story. I think they should’ve used George Lucas’s ideas. Anyways i did enjoy the movie, just am noticing mistakes upon reflection

Good movie, but didn't think it was great. If I could only use one word to describe this movie, it would be predictable.

watched it today. Thought it was pretty good - not groundbreaking or anything and it certainly has its holes, but in general very solid. I've never been a Star Wars nerd and I didn't spend two years speculating about Snokes background story and Reys parents ... if I had, I'd probably be disappointed.

Only scene that really irked me was Leia floating through space. That was ridiculously stupid.

After a second viewing, I fully agree that it's actually a pretty good movie. The silly parts are still silly, but I think I can appreciate the story a bit more now that I've gotten over the initial disappointment of the movie not going how I thought it would/should.

I saw it yesterday at IMAX, first impression was that I really enjoyed it from beginning to end. My 2nd impression now that I've had a day to digest is that I really like where this movie takes things. It really turned a lot of ideas on their head. It did little to answer fan questions from Force Awakens and I appreciate that they took some more risks here and now have set the table for other movies that don't have to follow the same narrative and can now be more of their own thing. I enjoyed Luke Skywalker the most as we did get to see some real character development. I like the idea that the Jedi are really no better than anyone else other than having an affinity for the force and have their own flaws. I think this is illustrated nicely though Yoda's appearance and reassurance that failure is the greatest teacher of them all.

The way things were handled in regards to the Resistance and First Order felt more like they were taking things more seriously in regards to respecting chain of command, and the fact that these are both organized military operations and not just 1 group of armored bad guys vs the good guys who almost always win despite impossible odds. Another point I liked as well was realizing that not everyone believes that the only way to win is to fight and defeat your enemies. The Force Awakens I found it hard to take the resistance as seriously when they were preparing the assault on StarKiller base, it just felt like a few flyboys all of a sudden could come up with a 5 minute plan to win. Here with the trying to escape with little fuel left the stakes were more desperate and the ones in command needed to be more thoughtful and measured in how they handle things. Lives do matter when you're on the brink of elimination so don't just throw them all away.

Curious to see where this one lands with people over time. Not to derail the thread to much, but my list for the series:

Top tier:
Empire Strikes back
A new Hope
Rogue One

Flawed but still amazing:
Return of the Jedi
The Last Jedi
The Force Awakens

Decent:
Revenge of the Sith

Not very good:
The Phantom Menance
Attack of the Clones.

Count me in the group that liked this a lot. I think it's more re-watchable than TFA. I liked TFA for the sentimentality, but the story was too much of a re-tread, and didn't have a lot of personality. The humour really added to this movie and contributed to the personalities and characters and made the serious scenes more impactful.

I really don't see how a reveal that Rey is a son of Luke or sister of Ren would have been at all satisfying. I do think they will explain some kind of relationship or connection between Rey and Ren next movie though, as there's obviously something.

Overall, I liked that it felt fresh and it was a satisfying end to Luke Skywalker.

I am always going to be off on these because I thought Phantom Menace was mostly pretty good, and Revenge of the Sith had no redeeming qualities.

Top tier
Empire Strikes Back
A New Hope

Second Tier
Return of the Jedi
The Last Jedi
The Phantom Menace

Third Tier
The Force Awakens
Rogue One

Forth Tier
Clone Wars
Revenge of the Sith

I enjoyed The Last Jedi. My only real complaint was Leia's space floating scene. I thought it was cool that they showed her using the Force, but not to defy death in a moment when she should have had no chance of survival. Initially I thought it was an acceptable way for her to die, then she woke up and I started to cringe. Then she started using the force and I though, cool, but this shouldn't be happening.

I also think they missed a good opportunity to kill Leia and have Leia make the sacrifice to make the jump to hyper space into the First Order's ship instead of Holdo, but I get it, since they were initially planning on Leia being alive for the 9th installment and that wasn't how they filmed the scenes when Carrie Fisher was alive.

I see what others are complaining about, and I can understand some of the complaints, but I could also see good reasoning why the rest of the movie was done they way it was.

I'm saddened about Luke. I figured he would die, and when it showed him meditating at the end I was happy that he lived, and then he became one with the Force and I became sad.

I didn't mind Leia saving herself with the force, I just wished it looked more like last ditch effort to survive and less like flying princess.

My personal ranking goes

Empire Strikes Back
Revenge of the Sith
Return of the Jedi
------------------------
The Force Awakens
The Last Jedi
A New Hope
------------------------
Phantom Menace
------------------------
Attack of the Clones

The hyphens separate the tiers for me. This was tougher than I thought. I enjoy every movie, there's not one I truly hate. I'm old enough to have grown up with the OT but young enough that I was still a little kid when the prequels came out so they have some nostalgic value to me. I can understand why the older crowd would hate them but I don't. I rewatched every movie and I enjoyed them all.

It's funny. The Leia force scene didn't bother me at all.

Weird nitpick given that we all know the originals were littered themselves with corny moments.

My nitpicks are with the excess storylines, and lack of attention given to the most engaging scenes and characters. Also opening with a mom joke really confused the viewer about the tone of the rest of the movie, given the heaviness of the scene that followed 5 minutes later.

Ya’ll are nuts. It was a great movie. Risky with some of the storylines yes, but it worked.

Haven't had a chance to read through the thread yet but I just got back from watching it and figured I'd share a few thoughts while they were still fresh. Not completely sure how I feel about this one but I think it was a good movie overall. There are a lot of things I didn't like though.

The opening crawl set a bad tone almost immediately. I read it and thought, oh great we're doing Empire all over again. The Poe/Hux exchange was awful. Compared to the opening of FA this one was not good. Can't say I particularly enjoyed seeing Poe take on the Dreadnought all on his own either. Rogue One reestablished some gravity in the Star Wars universe and seeing a single X-Wing zip around taking out this massive ship made me pretty mad.

Captain Phasma was actually badass... for about 30 seconds. Her fight scene was very well done and I loved the way Gwendoline Christie moved. The way she stalked towards Finn during the fight was cool. Too bad they took her out.

I enjoyed Rey's story arc and all of her scenes. I also liked Luke's scenes although I am not confident that killing him off was a good decision especially with Carrie Fisher's death. I suspect Luke will still play a big role in the next one where he'll probably be haunting Kylo. Loved crazy old force ghost Yoda.

The entire resistance story line fell flat for me and Finn's casino adventure should have been left on the cutting room floor. That was prequel levels of bad. It's a shame too because I really liked Finn in the FA but I felt he was wasted in this one.

Just watched as well.
Phasma isn't dead. She's going to be the Terminator to Fins Kyle Reese.
Loved how they dealt with Luke. And I feel with how they displayed his power he is far from done I'm this series. He will train Rey (along with the texts that nobody witnessed actually burned in the tree fire despite Yoda saying they were of no use anymore anyways).

Leias force float through space had me a little aghast at the cheese factor but I think it was more the Force taking over than Leia actually in control.

Still not fully sold on Kylo Ren as the main baddy but I am interested in seeing where they take this.

I'm assuming Rey will be building her own lightsaber with the remnants of the Skywalker saber.

Also found great humor in the front of Luke saying " what do you think going to happen? I'm just gonna walk out in front of an entire army with a laser sword a change anything" when in the end, that's exactly kind of sort of what he does via force Skype. Which was awesome BTW. Like totally wicked.

Know what's missing that they're trying to replace but actually haven't really tried to? The hijinx of C3PO and R2. Bb8 was great and all but there's no play off a buddy.
