I'm seeing it a second time tomorrow and so far this seems to be what most people are saying.

I think a lot of people badly wanted to know answers and were disappointed when they didn't learn them (or were unsatisfied with the answers). From what I hear once you watch it again knowing that you can't be let down it's quite good.

The more I think about it, the more I'm okay with the movie. People who think it's the worst of the saga really need to go watch Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones again. But I even don't think those are THAT bad. Star Wars fans are among the most picky fan bases. These movies have never been anything more than a fun popcorn flick. Some people take it way too seriously.

I'm excited to see it again.

I kinda zoned out during the Leia floating in space scene and thought that Kylo used the force to send her back to the ship until I read this thread. Obviously shes force sensitive but really she was able to use the force while in space, unprotected? That was probably the lowest point in the movie for me.

The light speed kamikaze scene was great though.

I think many of us are still coming to terms with losing another childhood hero. Had Luke not had a jammer after his force Skype session and survived for episode IX I think the majority would be heralding this movie as a a close second to Emprie... but a second movie in a row with the lose of a hero hurts.

I thought FA was turning the franchise away from plot depth and towards merchandising, but I still held out hope of an interesting story about the Jedi causing the rise of the Sith... Instead i watched a movie that made me cringe many times. I was so dissatisfied with the story. This is a kids movie.

So Yoda appeared to be able to still wield Force powers in the physical world (summoning the lightning). Had me thinking that even with Snoke's death we could get some sort of showdown with him against Yoda/Luke in some form next episode. The planet Luke was on didn't show us twin suns before right? Seeing that right as he passed away and his look hit home for me, was that just an illusion and a way for him to know he was about to become one with the Force?

The whole casino planet scene changed up the Star Wars universe in one big way (mainly for those that never deep dove into the Legends Universe and current canon non-movie sources), we see a group of people that are living the life by profiting off of both sides. Really a dose of our reality in the Universe, unsettling is how that felt to me. The usual light/dark or Empire/Rebels cleanliness of the setting was given a heaping dose of grey (and yes I'm somewhat ignoring the Hutt's from the original trilogy as they were Outer Rim).

During Poe's attack on the dreadnought did I see one of the first instances of Newtonian physics in Star Wars? I swear he busted out a 180 degree axis change but not in the usual swooping fashion, more like what we'd see in Battlestar Galactica with the Vipers.

RIP Ackbar, he deserved more than a throwaway line letting us know he was one of the command bridge members killed.

Oh and if those bombers were ultimately where they went from the B-Wing, for shame. However they did fit perfectly with the WWII aerial combat feel of the original trilogy, lumbering around like B-17's complete with gunner positions and being almost freaking useless without fighter cover.

I truly think that the entire casino bit could be edited out to make a tighter and more cohesive movie. The only redeeming feature of that series of scenes was the character played by del Toro.

The riding cow-moose chase bothered me until I figured it out that it was the exact same scene as the ford riding behind Shia labouf scene from crystal skull.

Most importantly, was the phrase, "I've got a bad feeling about this" uttered? I don't recall.

They were movies that were accessible to kids and that kids enjoyed (and parents were happy to have them enjoy), that had a lot of stuff you could market to kids, but up until the Ewoks in ROTJ there wasn't really anything that was clearly made for kids.

I mean, what parts in Empire or A New Hope make you think "oh, this is a kids movie" and not just "hey, my kid would enjoy this, too!"

Yeah I didn't find it necessary for Luke to die, also being the strongest character, it's a shame. Now you've killed off your original trio essentially. But I can see how there would be an imbalance of power on the light side if he did survive as surely Luke would help Rey best Ren with his advantage of knowledge and wisdom.
Now it's down to two raw untamed rookies duking it out but it seems like kylo has a thing for the girl so I don't see him actually trying to take her out in the next fillm. The climactic film will need a battle to the death type saber fight though so ah..i dunno. Abrams is going to have his work cut out for him. Let's see if he can do something original without any rehashing or recycling this time.

The fate of the entire rebel fleet was on the shoulders of a janitor's memory of imperial architecture he used to sweep, using a plan devised by another janitor where they had to jaunt off to a planet (extremely close, luckily), to make a giant mess for a young janitor to clean up.

That janitor will turn out to be the only hope for a new jedi order.

Are we sure this isn't a comedy?

None of that actually mattered, as you can just light speed battering ram whatever threat you want now.

Pretty much the only part of the movie that really angered me.

If a single cruiser doing an FTL battering ram can take out a fleet of star destroyers and the imperial flagship, they probably should've started doing that a lot sooner. In fact, the medical frigate and support corsair probably should've done that rather than run out of fuel and gotten blown up.

Other than that I thought the movie was great.

Actually one other thing bothered me. Is it just a new movie technique where when two characters are looking at each other, the camera zooms in on one and then the other and cuts back and forth 10 times? For me it got to a point where it was just so awkward even though I get that they're trying to show how intense the the conversation is.

They made it look cool enough I kind of ignored that part. Especially since it could be a one or two line fix, but would have gotten a bit too sci-fi:

'You'd have to disable the NAV computers and manually override remote failsafe thingamabobber. You'd need somebody physically manning the controls, it'd be a suicide mission!'

And then they can retcon something about shields usually would block the hyperdrive phasing or whatever but their shields were down to maximize the range on their turbo lasers etc.

So yeah, I'd say they got away with it because it was an absolutely fantastic shot.

Interesting reactions. I loved it and I'm not ashamed to say I cried throughout the movie. So glad I went alone.
