Taking a while to get to 5000

We're going to get Evander Kane, his tracksuits and his stack of money for 3 months we'll like it.

I don’t see it. The cost to acquire and cost to keep are too high. How do they sign Backlund and Kane to extensions and still have money to pay Tkachuk/Ferland/Smith (replacement) the following summer?

Oh I know. Was being facetious, sorry. Kane isn't coming here.

Clearly the flames are watching someone on the Sabres, and if the target isn't kane (fingers crossed) who else would the flames be looking at?!?
I do believe that with Versteeg looking like he's out for a long time, and Jagr likely needing rest games throughout the year, the flames may want to bring in another skilled winger who can help the PP (versteeg's primary/isolated area of success all season).

Would it be a surprise if buffalo wants one of our players and the Flames are just looking to recoup picks?

Edit; NVM
Rumour is that the Sabres are open to trading anyone not named Eichel though, so it would be a bit surprising if it was just picks in play for a team looking to (allegedly) make big roster changes.

Strongly doubt it. Flames have put the chips in (right or wrong) to be a playoff team this year. I just don't think they can pivot, especially given where they stand in the somewhat weak Pacific division.
What the sabres likely want from the flames are young players/assets, preferably at D i would imagine.

I could see Buffalo having interest in Hamilton or Brodie

And their 1st unprotected better be coming back + Reinhart. It's overpayment on their part, but we have no reason to trade either one.
The 1st unprotected would be for Brady Tkachuk. Would be funny to see the NHL explode if we had both players.

Sabres are currently last in the NHL (with some games in hand on Arizona). They aren't giving up the chance at Dahlin for Brodie.

I believe we are also getting pretty close to, if not already in, the extended Brian Burke holiday roster freeze.

I could still see this being a waiver fodder for waiver fodder deal or Brouwer for Bogosian.

Unless it's Brouwer going the other way... don't think Okposo's contract vs. contributions work for the Flames.
And with that in mind, I'm thinking Okposo would just be another Brouwer for us anyway.
