This is true and part of the reason you consider giving one to a third or fourth line guy - you like to have a letter on the ice as much as possible and having two defeats the purpose a bit.
I've been surprised they've not gone to Backlund, but maybe his personality doesn't lend itself to it (not an in room vocal guy) or maybe he doesn't want it.

I can honestly say I would rather be committed to Jagr for another 2 years after this after $4.5M and have Brouwer on a 1/1M.
If Brouwer is actually a leader in that room... I don't believe it. Nobody cares what Troy Brouwer thinks.

I think majority of people would rather have Jagr on our books over Brouwer.
My comment is purely based on the captaincy is based on what happens behind closed doors. You don’t know Gio, Mony, or Brouwer and how they lead in the locker room.
No fans might care what Brouwer thinks but its very possible his teammates respect him and his opinions and leadership.

We have zero ability to decide who should be captains. We have every ability to speak to who should be captains. Just like we can speak our opinions on who should or should not be the coach and who should be the right wing on the top powerplay unit.

It's not at all like being the captain. Who has an A makes zero difference in the dressing room, if you think guys are going to magically start listening to someone more or tuning them out depending on if they're an alternate then you're kidding yourself. The only thing it affects is interactions with the refs but that's negligible in the NHL.

I get peoples arguments about coaching (to an extent), lines, etc., but to be able to call a player a good or bad captain makes zero sense when you're not in the room. That is behind closed doors.
If you want to sit here and say Donald Trump should be on Team USA, by all means, you can say all you want, but there is zero basis to that argument. Same thing as who should be a captain or not. There is zero basis to that comment because you're not privy to anything that relates to a captain.

Did you miss Brouwer breaking Abdelkaders face for slashing Mike Smith's hand earlier this season?
I mean I'm not a Brouwer fan but he did stand up.

Having Brouwer with an A plus being on PP unit 1 has straight up blown by "questionable", additionally cruised right on by the classic personal second guess to myself "maybe the coaches know better" and has just recently passed "straight up idiotic at this point" for me.
That's where we're at with Brouwer. Having him in that role plus the A is ridiculous for the sake of being stubborn, with all of us (coaches & Brouwer included) knowing it's completely asinine and quite possibly an inside joke we are all the butt of as fans.
Actually I think the proper legal context or phrasing would be grossly negligent. Knowing you're making stupid decisions and carrying on anyway.

The sad thing is Brouwer was handed an A before he ever wore the jersey in a game.
So it was a farce to begin with. He doesn't deserve it.
