Then I come in here and see an overwhelming amount of negative and extremes. A slice of optimism will go a long way to pumping some energy into your Flames Fandom. This is a really fun team to watch, that legitimately could do a lot of damage when things start clicking.

Enjoy it.
I’m sorry, but you are full of it. Outside of the Winnipeg game, there has not been a single exciting game at home this year. I’m a season ticket holder and have been to every home game. It’s so boring I don’t even want to be there. I’m not even taking about win and losses either. Loses I can handle. Paying large money to sit there wishing I was at home doing something else is unacceptable. Given the large amount of empty seats and the tickets going for far less than face value to Weekend games ten games into the Season, it doesn’t look like I’m the only one in that boat either. The only reason I am going tonight is to see Ovy, otherwise I would prefer to stay at home and watch The Walking Dead. That’s how bad this has gotten.

I disagree.

Edit: FTR I never said their home games have been all entertaining. The few I suggested were home.

I'm taking about the team as a whole, not the performance they've put on for too long at home. Most of the games I'm recalling as entertaining were away.

I live in Ontario, have two young kids and start work early in the morning. Staying up late to watch the Flames play has become too much of a gamble. I often find myself going to bed at midnight in a bad mood because of a terrible showing. I usually watch 70+ games a year but have started only watching games when it fits my schedule.

Their wildly inconsistent play has made me change my priorities. Most games this season haven't been worth being tired the next morning. That's where I'm at as a fan.

It's unfortunate, but the cap world and the team lifecycle it has inherently created, makes it easy to be fed-up/give-up.

Basically every team eventually bottoms out, and goes into the rebuild stage of ~3 years: stock piles high picks for a few years to create their 'core' and then builds around that core for X years (~3-5).

The team will evolve during these years into a
a) perennial playoff contender,
b) nothing the core's never good enough leaving the team spinning circles in the building stage for years,
c) for a very few, they will become cup contenders for a couple years within X.

X Years usually end where the team devolves into a, and eventually b triggering going back to a rebuild.

As a fan, you're basically looking at the cycle to last about 7-10 years. If your team has completed the rebuild, and is stuck in the a-b realm, you are stuck at and need to wait for the cycle to complete again.

Being a family man, 2 young kids, i have little free time, but i have made sacrifices to ensure i organize my free time allowing me to be a full time flames fan.
Ugh, i'm 36, do i emotionally invest in, what could be, another decade to see an actual playoff team (not just bubble team year after year)? On top of that, I don't even live in calgary anymore, so the arena debate doesn't actually affect my bottom line, yet, it pisses me off to no end on where the team and the city have arrived at so far, and the threat of relocation looping.

The goodwill raised by Treliving seriously has dwindled. I'd be ok to consider this year another year of growth and the challenges that come with that. For him to spend our first rounder, and the next 2 year's second rounders is a big problem, and a severe miscalculation on his part.

The only move he has in his arsenal is to have confidence in the roster he's put together and put the lack of results on the coach (ie. give him the boot). Or he rides out his roster, and his coaching hire into the offseason and suffer the consequences.

Mind you, this isn't the first time a burke led team (once as GM, and now as president or whatever his role is called) has given up high picks far too early in a rebuild thinking they are in the clear to take the next step as a playoff/cup contender.

the poor coaching and lack of will to succeed has definitely dampened my enthusiasm. I don't pvr games or rush home to watch anymore.

I think I am becoming a fair weather fan too. I don't go out of my way to watch the games anymore (time change and all) but the most telling thing for me recently is that I'm not expecting the Flames to win most of their games and I'm not as surprised by losses.

When fans start to lose passion for the team, is it on the fans or the team for not captivating them?

The Flames PR these last couple years, as well as their disappointing on-ice results relative to the roster assembled, has done wonders for my marriage. I'm doing a lot more working on the house & yard these days, just checking the score periodically - if it looks like a good game is happening, I'll sit down for a bit and catch up on the fun parts.

Won't be attending another game live for a while. Living out of province, and due to the ridiculous cost, I've only been able to go to 1 game each season. Well... last season I chose the 8-3 drubbing in January at the hands of the Oilers. When all was said and done, that trip cost ~$2000 and 9hrs of driving time. I cannot risk spending that kind of cash to watch the Flames anymore, if that is the entertainment I'll be subjected to.

It's been about three decades with only some sporadically fun seasons, and a lot of just awful dreck. We have no right to make fun of the Canucks or Leafs at this point. So yes, it takes a toll. I get excited every year and then I mentally check out, some seasons earlier than others.

Not a fair weather fan by any means but at this point I don't really feel anything after losses. When I was younger I would get so pissed off by a loss that it would irk me for days, now I just don't really feel anything after loses, maybe it's me getting older or I've just come to accept mediocrity. I've accepted that when you are fan of a team that's only made it to the second round once since 2004 you have to set the bar very low.

I dont know, but at the moment I just hate the inconsistency.

World Beaters one night and complete and utter garbage the next.

It makes it hard to decide to tune in.

I got a new TV yesterday. I kept thinking how nice Flames games will look on it, and how enjoyable it will be to watch on this new toy. Worked quickly to unpack it, hang it, and hook it up. Tune to Sportsnet just in time for that three goal flurry from the Flyers.

Just the latest in a series of anti-climaxes and disappointments with this team. They'll never lose me entirely, and I'll still spend way too much time and money on them. But there's a lot more "background viewing" and "score peeking" happening now, instead of my old method of PVR-ing and watching the whole game intently after the kid is in bed. Spent too many nights anticipating the game, settling in, and getting a crap performance in return.

I’m not a fair weather fan. In fact, this year I’ve probably watched more games than ever. What has changed is my emotion level. I don’t get too upset when they lose now. It used to really upset me but nowadays, I’m a big picture fan I guess. I don’t get worked up over single losses. Not like I used to at least. I don’t want to be that guy now.
