Default Drivers keep hitting large rock in suburban Calgary parking lot

This would be funny if it wasnt scary and sad that there is so many people out there like this. Using the term "Driver" to describe the people behind the wheel in these vehicles is a misnomer. I'm sure everyone can think of their own word(s) to describe these peoples. Theres bad drivers everywhere but it seems this city is below average when it comes to skill. It seems its way too easy to get a license in this city.

Drivers keep hitting large rock in suburban Calgary parking lot

Drivers can't seem to stop hitting a giant rock in a suburban parking lot, despite it being an inanimate object surrounded by yellow-painted curbs.

"I don't know how you miss this big rock or how you cut the curb so tight you end up jacked up on the rock," said Brangwyn Jones, who lives in the northwest community of Sage Hill.

"I'm trying to wrap my mind around it, as are many of the community members."

After several collisions, the Sage Hill Rock — as it has become known among area residents — is now set to be removed from a retail shopping complex that is still being developed in the relatively new community.

3 crashes on the weekend

At least three crashes were documented in photographs posted on the weekend to a community Facebook group that Jones administers.

They can bring it to me. I'll put it on the corner of my yard. Then maybe I won't end up with the asshat dog walkers driving across the yard, to turn around on the street.

In a related story, there's 3 large rocks now in the SE corner of the Chinook mall parking lot. I witnessed the reason for their placement.

Leaving a movie one night years ago I saw a car that had decided to drive over that grass as a shortcut I guess and didn't realize there's a large drop-off to the street. They were completely stuck, suspended with all 4 tires in the air. Guess they decided to put a huge rock there to dissuade other idiots from doing the same thing.

That's too bad. Should let them figure it out the hard/expensive way.

I had to explain to my mom the other day that the back wheels take the shortest route to the front wheels. It's amazing how few people realize that the back wheels of a vehicle don't follow the path of the front wheels.

By the looks of those photos most of these strugglers are hitting it with their front tires, never mind the rear. Hard to believe that 3 people over the course of a weekend, are that terrible.

It seems like borderline Insurance Fraud.

"Um, yeah, I was driving around and it just jumped out at me! Now I need new tires and a new suspension and whatever else I can get...."

As someone who's embarrassingly gotten themselves stuck and high centered here, I can sympathize. NSFW for size.

It's not a great parking lot design to start with...if that little median is so tight that they couldn't pour rounded corners of concrete there, then they should have shifted everything further out. Then you wouldn't have people "cutting" the corner because it's how they would take the corner in a normal lot.

If you think Calgary drivers are bad, you haven't been a pedestrian in Vancouver. I miss having pedestrian crossings actually mean something.

Maybe the sun was in their eyes. Rock could have jumped right out in front of them too.
May he who has never accidentally ran over a person/thing throw the first large rock.

They should just leave the big rock where it is. If you're stupid enough to not see the bright yellow lines and hit it, you deserve the damage to your vehicle and the public shame.

Maybe they could get sponsorship for the rock to keep it there...

Like from a brewery or something...

Before I make fun of you, I would like the back story please.

That area is not even a road way.

As for the original rock, wtf!!! How do you hit a big rock like that.

Remove the rock? That's crazy. There should be more rocks, not less! The rock, unlike most of the people "working" at the mall is actually providing a useful service in a competent manner - sussing out people who have no business driving on the roads.
