Hamonic needs to be on the bottom pairing. I know the guy is going through a lot in his personal life, but he’s been awful on the ice. Brodie/Stone is a much better pairing.
I don’t know why they keep rolling Brodie/Hamonic our there. Any casual observer can see the pairing does not work. They’ve had enough time to adjust and mesh. They can’t. Break them up.

The evidence is overwhelming that GG is a terrible coach. And if Tre let’s this go on much longer his job should be reviewed as well.

You need to read the next two sentences of the post you quoted. The poster’s point is that he is crediting Jagr and his influence for JG’s uptick this year rather than GG.

Because GG is a hard headed man that refuses to adjust. Which is the whole god damned frustrating problem. It's not just that pairing, that is just one of many stupid things he refuses to adjust.
The guy is not a head coach. There's proof. And as Jean Chretien said, a proof is a proof, and if there's proof, it's proven.
Seriously, GG.

Ain’t a pc thing.
It’s a getting tired of an over used expression attributed to the wrong person thing

Ahh, didn’t realize he was giving Jagr sole credit. Interesting take.

Still means some are giving gg the blame for weak performances and none of the credit for strong ones

Sure it's nice that Gaudreau is doing great this season, but without the rest of the TEAM, the Flames don't go very far. IS that all it takes to satisfy some fans? Having one or two great players? Because if that's what you're looking for, there's a team up north that's notorious for that kind of hockey, and around here, they get relentlessly mocked for it.
Face it, we have Dallas Eakins as our coach, and some of the fans are a-ok with that. It's like a sin to criticize the Flames/BT for his crappy choice in a coach. This is so Oilersesque.
|
I didn’t say I was ok with it. My point is that JG is having a career year, and that may be the only good thing that can be said of GG’s job as coach this year... if he gets blamed for all the bad he should get credit for the good.

Quenneville: 82-61-21 / Average of 92.5 points per season.
Now look at Gulutzan’s:
87-68-9 / Average of 91.5 points per season.
Glen has actually had a better start to his career than Mike Babcock and only 1 less point per season than Quenneville.
Gulutzan has his warts, but he’s still doing some on the job learning. Would probably be worthwhile to allow him to grow into the position, given he already has very solid early coaching career numbers.
|
This comparison is way off.
Both of those guys started when the NHL still had ties and successful teams had far fewer points.
Quenneville's Blues were tied for 5th in the conference and in the playoffs with 83 points.
It took 94 to make it in the wild card last season; completely different times.

Yeah, I kind of wanted to edit out your post after I posted, because I don't think I was talking to you as much as just ranting.
But for the record, I don't give GG any credit for JG. JG being awesome was a thing before GG, and will continue after GG hopefully gets fired. JG and Monahan have chemistry, and it wasn't GG that made that discovery. He's just barely smart enough to not dismantle the last thing that Hartley did.

I would say Gulutzan should get some credit for the top 2 lines working so well. His system relies more on puck support and passing than, say, speed. The guys that do well are two-way players with IQ and good passing, and it helps cover for guys who are not that fast. So guys that do well are the ones you'd expect; Monahan, 3M, Jankowski and Jagr. It also helps Gaudreau as he constantly has other guys close to help him with board scrums.
Gulutzan is not a terrible coach who is completely clueless about the team he has. But I don't think he's good enough.
Good two-way players with high hockey IQ and a good work ethic will do well under most systems. It really doesn't say that much about the coaching.

Not sure Backlund has really improved that much, he hit 21 goals and 47 points and was the best two-way player on the team under Hartley. Going from 47 to 53 points can be attributed to having his left wing upgraded from Bennett to Tkachuk, plus the extra experience and confidence success brings.

Probably should have done this a while ago but merged the two gg threads where the same conversation is happening. This will also stop the bumping of each thread depending on if the team wins or loses

Gaudreau, Monahan, and Tkachuk have the skill set to improve under just about any coach. I don't think GG can contribute much to the play of elite players.

Not sure about before the game but Jerrard was asked post game if anything was said during the first intermission. His answer was that
"GG calmly reminded the team of the type of game they wanted to play"
And Jerrard followed that up with
"and nothing more needed to be said during the second intermission"

You can't read into that or even take it seriously.
When the flames came out in the third period hamitlon and Brodie were pulling splinters out from riding the pine, Kulak was getting plenty of ice with hamonic, ferland was on the fourth line, there was a new goalie in net and Hathaway was on the third line.
Hockey player and Coach interviews are largely meaningless, especially those given during the game or immediately afterwards.

LOL, is Gulutzan afraid of his players or something?
