See, that's where we disagree. And I understand that this is the opinion of the minority on Calgarypuck, but I believe Gulutzan to be an average-to-good coach in a league full of average-to-good coaches, and that the decision to fire him, when that course of action should be taken, should occur based on a period of multiple games of multiple failures.
I understand that losing to the Oilers is very difficult to deal with emotionally and that it can spark anger in a lot of people, but at the end of the day, it's one game against one team and this team has had a lot of success this season, playing VERY good games against good teams in Anaheim, Washington, Pittsburgh, and others, getting off to a pretty decent start which is easy to build upon as many of the Flames' new players become acclimatized to their new team. I think, as a historically slow-starting team, we should expect to see results in the coming months that more accurately reflect this team's skill level, as the second pairing continues to mesh in Gulutzan's system.
I'm not in love with Gulutzan or anything, and I will definitely be on board to fire him if the team doesn't improve in the coming weeks. But in my humble opinion, I believe him to be far superior to Bob Hartley's style as the team plays more consistent possession hockey which, I feel, leads to more success in the long run. I see your points, but I just disagree. Nothing personal.
