Why would this surprise anyone. The team collectively ####s their pants everytime 97 steps on the ice. It's embarrassing.

They were outright dominating the Oilers. There is no excuse for this. First period or not there is no excuse.

What's even the point of the Flames playing the first period if they're always gonna pooped the bed in it and enter the first intermission trailing by a goal or two?

It's hard enough winning games in the NHL. They always make it so difficult for themselves. Most unprepared team in the league.

No reason to not call a time out. Your down 2 (could easily be 3) calm everyone down and get focused
