Interesting observation 'Bax'. I wouldn't have guessed the Gio/Hamilton pairing are still doing so well as per the advanced stat metrics.
this article was posted i think recently....

Spoiler!

and just how married are we with dmen playing sides based on their handedness??

giordano - brodie
hamilton - hamonic/stone
kulak - hamonic/stone

all 3 of the current pairings have been a pretty steady disappointment 20-some games in. the fact, that outside a period or two, the coach hasn't tried anything to really provide a jolt is somewhat disappointing.
Absolutely no reason to split up Gio and Hamilton.

They continue to be one of, if not the best pairing in the NHL. They're dominant in every facet of the game minus the odd turnover here or there.

Dude, come on. I like both players too, but come on. Not even close.

All the evidence points towards them being absolutely dominant since being put together, including this season.

Try and prove me wrong, but I bet you won't be able to find any such evidence that proves me wrong

???

I beg to differ Gio/Hamilton is easily one of the best pairings in the NHL.

Did you even bother reading the link that was in the post above? They have been solid for us this year apart from the occasional Dougie giveaway (which is bound to happen given their minutes and responsibilities). The problem this year has been the Brodie pairing.

And that's the bottom line cuz Stone-Cole said so

Sorry, couldn't resist

Sorry, my bad for bringing up the splitting up gio/hamilton topic, but the post i shared above does have some data indicating they are a top pairing.

I still don't think one can close the door on splitting it up, considering it may be needed to help balance the top 4/6 more evenly. Having a great top pairing but the bottom 4 continue struggling night in and night out, then something has got to give.

Statistically speaking, they actually are one of the top pairings in the league this season. And last season they were the most dominant - depending on how much weight you give the underlying stats... either way, it's not a ridiculous assertion.

Prove it... ya donkey.

Maybe it's the media never covering the Flames that leads to this phenomenon of Flames fans always assuming we have the league leftovers.

Tyler Dellow mentioned this in his earlier post on defensive pairings

The Mark Giordano/Dougie Hamilton pair has to be on any short list of the best pairs in the NHL. I think it's reasonable to ask though: does it make sense for Calgary to play them together? That might sound like heresy but hear me out.
Who knows if the team is better at that point, but you will never know if you don't try.

I guess my homer goggles need cleaning because I have a hard time buying words like "dominant" and "best in the league" when the Flames are still in the tank for GA/G. And neither player is really lighting the world on fire offensively either.

I say this not to crap on either guy or the team as a whole, but as a suggestion to maybe take a step back because these are the same kinds of statements we love to make fun of Oilers fans for.

Edit: I see the dogpiling is already starting. I'll be on my way then and keep my opinions to myself next time.

But when you're talking about the Flames it's actually true.

Yeah, no one is dog piling... just pointing out that the numbers show that Dougie/Gio are one of the more dominant pairings in the league. All you need to do is refute that and stand by your claim they are not a top pairing in the league... honestly, if you can't provide evidence to back your opinion, and are then presented with evidence that suggests your opinion is false, why is it so difficult to concede?

Hard to blame the Homer glasses when articles after articles made by separate sources, writers and statistics all point toward being the most dominant posession pairing.

It's like saying it's 5 degrees outside and having somebody argue that it's a bad take because it's not windy.

No one is dogpiling, we're just simply saying your statement is false, because there is absolutely nothing to suggest for a second that it was true

What I take issue with are statements like "dominant in every facet of the game" and "best in the league" when we're still having discussions about why the defense isn't getting it done in their own end. They're a good pairing, but with Mike Smith playing the way he is you would think a team with such a "dominant" pairing would be a bit better than 22nd overall in goals against, unless you believe that Brodie/Hamonic really is dragging the team down that hard.

Teams with true dominant pairings backed by solid goaltending (Columbus, Nashville, Anaheim, for example) tend to do very well at limiting chances consistently, which I have yet to see from the Flames.

Are all you nay-sayers missing the qualifier of “among” ? And with those nay -sayers reminded of that, do you still disagree?

If so, why?
