I don't see how you are missing the point hah, that Sacha Baron Cohen is raising awareness and pointing towards anti-semitism etc. Sure it's done in a comedic way, but it's obvious that it's social commentary too. That racism is still alive and well, anti-semitism, sexism etc. in western cultures.

OK...this is the scenario, if a black man came up to you while you were performing, and told you, "Hey (insert negative background comment here), you suck!" or something worse (which was not the case here, but hypothetically speaking), you're telling me you wouldn't try to outdo him by shoving it back at him? All I'm saying, is we shouldn't be so quick to say "hey, I'm better than this guy", because the truth is, if the right circumstances arise, you're gonna fling everything you got...right or wrong. I'm not making excuses for the guy...what he did absolutely was wrong, but see the circumstances surrounding it, the video tells half the story. It's like a wife killing her abusing husband, and we only hear about the killing part. I wouldn't be so quick to call him a racist. Prejudice more likely.

No dude, if the black man came up to me and said that I might call him a dumb F** or punch him in the mouth, but I would never use a racial slur, EVER. And I know there are alot of people just like me, just because someone calls me an "Irish drunken prick" or a "stupid cracker" or a "dumb white boy" doesnt mean I would ever use their race against them in response.

In all seriousness I would laugh out loud if some black guy came up to me while im wearing my sweater vest and khakis and said "whats craking HONKEY?"
Seriously the word "*****r" has taken on an entirely different meaning then what it was once used for.. Heck I hear it in ever rap song it seems like now-a-days. People are just trying to get press. Although Mikes comments were completely out of line... But like I said in my previous post, you cant judge him because we only have HALF the story. If blacks are offended by the use of the word "*****r" then why would it not be right for a white man to become extremly offended if called a "cracker".
I just like to think racism is a thing of the past, but Im not quick to judge anyone until I hear the full story.

Instead of hurling insults do the research. There are lots of news articles out there with people giving quotes as to what has happened. I posted some here but you couldn't be bothered to read it until Kipperfan pointed it out to you.

I'm not really sure what to think of that. His apology sounded very sincere, but I still don't get what he was getting at. He said something about the rage within all of us (I sure don't feel it) and how he's not racist. I just don't get it.
He seemed lost for words alot of the time.

I kind of understand what he is getting at. Saying something racist doesn't necessarily mean that you have genuine racist beliefs. Sometimes when people are extremely angry at another person, they will say anything they can to try and hurt that person even if it is attacking a whole group of people.

Although, two of Sacha Baron Cohen's alter egos are unsavoury portrayals of muslims, so even though he raises awareness about anti-Semetism, he could also be part of the problem.
Not that I don't think he is funny, but I am not a British muslim or a Kazahk.

Never fails. Again with the 2 wrongs make a right comment. A black man can't be offended by Ni**er because you're not offended by cr**ker. Good logic.

And there it is..this is what I believe happened. I think he was angry enough but had no idea how to respond, other than picking up on the obvious..that these dudes were black. So that's how he chose to express his anger. It was a dumb thing to say.
The thing I really find strange about the video though, is that he flips out, drops the N-bomb a bunch of times, and then calms down, and says "ooohh, shocking!" in a sarcastic manner. It was weird..almost like he didn't think what he had said would be taken as a big deal. It seemed like he was ready to carry on with his show until the two guys started firing back with "that wasn't neccessary". Very strange how it all played out. In any case I'm not exactly sure what he was thinking.

And what he thought, was racist.
If making ignorant, racist comments mean you have "balls", I'd rather be ball-less.

umm...
racism is prejudice based on race. Therefore his comments were both racist and prejudice.

I cannot imagine ever making such comments, but that is me, and I certainly appreciate Richards coming out like this and attempting to make a mense, I think he should get some help though...if he is not a racist as he claims he has very troublsome rage problems and needs to address them with professional help.
I wish the best for Richards if he is sincere, I hope he has learned from this and will become a better person because of it.

I'm not condoning what the guy did, but I see your logic in here. He may or may not be racist. Only he himself knows that. But people do say stuff when they're extremely angry that they don't mean.
Like Igottago says, when you're angry like that, sometimes you pick out the most obvious thing to try to get back at the person in an argument. Kinda like saying "I wish you were dead!" to a parent or something. You don't actually mean that (er, at least I hope not), but you say it out of anger and frustration.
So I mean, Richards could have been in that same mentality. He was frustrated, and he saw that the people heckling them were black, and the first thing that came to his mind to try to get back at the people and to make them upset was to make comments about the colour of their skin. Despite what some people on here say, that does happen.

Very interesting to see that on TV flipping channels. The guy had a lapse in judgement for a few seconds...seems committed to making amends in any way he can. Having Jerry Seinfield to back you up on Lettermen is also effective.

Give Seinfeld some credit, most people would be jumping off that sinking ship like nobody's business but he helps a buddy out and give him an opportunity to apologize.
It's very rare these days for a celebrity (or anyone for that matter) to help a friend out when they make a mistake. Shows a lot of character on Seinfeld's part.
