Yus!
Our Murray-lite?
Actually no, let's not jinx anything. Just an adequate backup would be a nice start.

When Rittich goes in we will have seen minutes from our 1st, 3rd, 6th, 11th and 12th prospects from our summer poll.

And only a quarter into the season. Without injuries really being a factor although the whole Jankowski thing mystifies me.

I don’t think there is much lost in the choice between Rittich and Gillies. They have been pretty evenly competitive for over a year now.
|
I think Rittich has clearly been better as the win/loss record indicates the team plays better in front of him. No shame in that for Gillies who is still on track after losing a season due to surgery but Rittich is simply ahead of him on the curve.

Development! These young guys all have done a reasonably nice job in their stints as well, rather than being played minutes just for the sake of playing them *cough*Yamamoto*cough*. You wouldn't see that many homegrown prospects earn a shot 400 kms up north.

So glad Tre didn't trade away another asset for another back-up, really excited to see Rittich! Play him Saturday

Treliving et al don't do everything when the masses suggest they should, but at least the right decision seems to be getting made in due course.
Jagr signed
Jankowski up
Brouwer to the fourth line
Bartkowski out for Kulak
Rittich up for Lack
That's all bottom roster tinkering to make the team better.

I think the biggest take away is the GM will make room, it just takes time. There are roster limits and other factors that come into play. IMO the process is necessary as you are managing assets and reputation. IF Treliving was ruthless with the vets right off the bat it would have been noticed by agents and could very well come back to bite them during future FA. Right now no one can not say there were not given every opportunity.
Decisions are not always made in a vacuum.

GG should get some credit here...
Ties with Jagr in Dallas, which may have factored in bringing him here.
Brouwer on the fourth line.
Bartkowski out for Kulak may have also been his decision.

Happy to see Rittich called-up, but would like to see Lack sent down since I have bad memories of our 3-headed goalie monster from a couple of years ago (Ramo, Hiller, Ortio).

Lack is in Stockton now. He was sent down this morning.

This is the right call in my mind. I didn't really care for the Lack trade to begin with but I was willing to give him a chance. Goalies need to play and now Lack should get a few more games to see if there is anything left there. Riitch probably should have started with the big club but he is here now. I hope we see him very soon.

Since 2007, 17 different goalies have played for the Flames. In order of games played for the team:
1. Miikka Kiprusoff
2. Karri Ramo
3. Jonas Hiller
4. Brian Elliott
5. Curtis McElhinney
6. Joni Ortio
7. Chad Johnson
8. Joey MacDonald
9. Reto Berra
10. Henrik Karlsson
11. Vesa Toskala
12. Mike Smith
13. Leland Irving
14. Curtis Joseph
15. Eddie Lack
16. Jon Gillies
17. David Rittich
It would be great is Rittich can solidify the backup role. It would (obviously) be even better if one of Rittich, Gillies or Parsons eventually became a legitimate starter. The goalie carousel needs to end.

It’s a bit of a win-win… Rittich is playing well enough to play the occasional game, Gillies gets to work regularly and keep developing

Was it Backstrom that got a game in at the end of the year a couple seasons ago too?

Hoping he plays well, not expecting much. Gillies and Parsons are still hopefully our future.

You missed Nicholas Backstrom who played in 4 games in 2016, tying him with Eddie Lack.
