Default Doug Gilmour tells his story on being traded

I think those of us old enough to remember this still feel the gut punch from this trade when we think about it and what might have been if it never took place.

I'm more interested in his thoughts on his trade to Calgary. I obviously won't support him by buying the book but I wonder if he'll discuss the baby sitter stuff at all.

Pssh, if the library doesn't cost a quarter billion to construct I'm not stepping a single foot into it.

But even then, I do think it's supporting him to take it out from the library even if it doesn't cost me money

I lived two doors down from him and went to school with his daughter. I didn't really follow hockey at the time, so to me the trade meant losing a friend.

Maybe to you he was a friend, maybe to him you were the reason he left! Why didn't you just return the weed whacker!?

He got traded for a frickin lousy $623,000!!! And in addition, McCoun, Nattress and Manderville were part of that trade! If that didn't hurt, the Flames also lost Niewendyk and McInnis due to the Flames going cheap! Maybe the baby sitter thing accounted for part of the decision to trade Gilmour, but to add in McCoun and Nattress? Talk about stupidity and bad management or what!

Risebrough bungled it all very badly but I also think walking out on your team, mid-season, while under contract is unforgivable.
You have a contract. You have a deal. Play.

As angry as I was about Gilmour for Leeman at the time, I was even angrier about Macoun and Nattress going with him. Two underrated shut-down defencemen going with a questionable return.

Risebrough gets his fair share of the flak in that deal, but I give a chunk of the blame to Bill Hay as well. As team president he oversaw all of the cheaping-out.

This post is awesome to read if you envision it as a Donald Trump tweet.

Deer River Estates? I grew up in Deer Run, killer used to play street hockey with us sometimes, and also had loads of other run ins with him throughout my childhood. My all time favourite player, the day he was traded was awful, even worse I jumped ship and became a Leafs Fan for a couple years

Revenues were in CAD, there was no cap, and the dollar was about to tumble for the next 10+ years. I don't care if Jesus was the team president, the team would have been unable to compete financially and be on the verge of moving.

Hockey wise, this was still a lousy trade made by Risebrough.

I'm pretty sure the babysitter rumours happened when he played in St Louis. But, yeah, awful, awful trade.
