Default Did The BC Lions Sin?

By the looks of the image on TSN.ca... THEY BROKE THE GREY CUP?!?!?!?

What a lack of respect to the holy shrine of Canadian Football. I didn't watch the game, cause I could care less about the Lions and the Als, but how the heck did this happen. Isn't there a guy with white gloves around to make sure something like this doesn't happen?

Just saw the picture and thought it was pretty funny...

The trophy's 94 year's old...I believe stuff like this has happened before (I read some Rider fans saying that it happened back in '89). Looks like a clean/accidental break, easily repairable...

It also happened in 93 as well. It's a pretty old rickety thing. I was out at a thing one night where someone else attending managed to get the Grey Cup and bring it there. It took me about an hour of looking at the thing and verifying as many names on it that I could to be convinced that it was actually the trophy. Theres trophy's like it in almost every minor hockey arena in the country. It's not in very good shape.

It looks like the original cup just separated from the base.

I saw teh replay, someone pucked it up over their head, started shaking it, and it separated.

I'm sure everybody by now has read about them taking it and having it welded back together in quicktime and returned to the Lions for their flight home. Very funny stuff and just so CFL.

Well at least in Winnipeg they could find a welder who already wansn't at work easily enough. Not so sure they would have pulled that off in Edmonton or Calgary!

I'm not surprised. I've seen the Grey Cup close up and it's not in very good shape. Looked pretty banged up with small dents and was missing rivets.

Agreed. Good to see him being a part of a team that allows the kicker to do his job; instead of placing the onus on him to provide the offense.

If any football game comes down to a last second field goal; and the kicker misses, it's the entire team who is responsible for losing the game.

I agree that the entire team is responsible for losing a game...but on the other hand, Paul was partly to blame. All the onus was placed on McCallum to provide the offense last weekend for BC. He got 19 of their points. In the 2004 WF, Henry threw for over 400 yards and 3 TDs that game including a clutch TD in the final minute to pull the Riders ahead - Paul only had to make 1 FG to that point. The FG kicker is paid to make kicks and Paul choked severely. For cripes sake, Duncan O'Mahoney made a last second FG - the longest of his career - and then a FG in OT twice as long as Paul's miss to win the game for the Lions. Paul did great on Sunday - but he f'd up royally in 2004.

Yeah, Saskatchewans defence letting Dickenson convert a 3rd and like 25 with a minute and change left was all McCallum's fault too. And who's to say that miss cost them the game because for all we know the Lions could have went for a TD on their possession. Funny how once McCallum gets out of Saskatchewan that he suddenly makes all the kicks.

Dont forget about the Kenton 'the criminal' Keith fumbling the ball on the BC 1 yard line... that wouldn't have mattered, it was all Finkle's fault...

Yea - KK 'the criminal'. It'd be nice if the media would let everybody know of the real story that night, people would change their tune.

Nowhere did I say Paul should shoulder all the blame. But let's face facts - he f'd up at a critical point in the game and if it was a Stamps kicker who did that, you'd all be calling for his head too. Don't even try to say you wouldn't (Burris anyone???)...

Nice try. It was 2 and 11 and the Lions completed a pass to Clermont who got some YAC on the play. And McCallum was a good kicker in Saskatchewan too - just missed some key clutch ones. His average is going to be better in BC cuz he gets to kick in the dome. Plus, he wanted a six figure salary to stay - the Riders didn't want to pay him that.

I seem to remember a 3rd and long where Dickenson made a pass to keep things going.

who cares Riders are losers, and will continue to be terrible for the foreseeable future.
