I want the Flames to succeed. I believe that right now they are succeeding in spite of the coach, not because of him. Also, if you guys are going to whine about people not liking the coach when we win, don't start crying when people disagree with you.

I don't know what point you're making with the bolded. It seems that you're saying the same thing twice.
LOL @ selfish benefit. I don't know how I benefit from this.
How are we the ones whining and crying again? Ah, I see, you've manufactured opinions and assigned them to me for your own selfish benefit.
It seems like you have a preconception about Gulutzan that no amount of evidence will convince you of the opposite. Good luck with that. You're going to have to defend yourself a LOT.

Speaking of coaches, it's interesting to now how badly Caps fans want Trotz fired. Which is unsurprising given how mediocre their team has been thus far this season.

Cali his point is that whenver someone points out the fact that GG is terrible you chime in with how the persons stupid, ignorant or not watching the game.
There is no evidence, based on what you are saying any coach that has not been swept in the playoffs is a better coach; you know because of the evidence.

Bloody hell....
Look, CPF - Transplant decided for some reason to go fishing for validation on Gulutzan's behalf. Dunno why, but whatever. I disagreed with him. For some reason, you basically seem to have taken my disagreement personally. That's on you, not me. And if you have a problem, use the ignore feature.

No i didn't...LOL
It was a light hearted joke (see smiley face that was attached) because of how set in stone so many seem to be with GG one way or the other.
Truth is, I don't know how good he is or isn't but the one metric I go with in regards to coaches is results. I thought last year was an excellent result when considering the goaltending he had to work with, and i will somewhat reserve judgement on this season until they are well past the 20 game mark.
Jeezuz you are sensitive. And as for the whole "use the ignore feature", why not apply that to yourself?

My friend, breathe. I'm not trying to go after you personally at all. I take issue with the statements that you made because they're hyperbolic and beg the question. You assume that he was brought in because he was cheap. You also assume that he was not brought in because Treliving thought he would make the team better, but as a placeholder coach or something along those lines? I can't quite tell what you mean by it. I can't speak to the first one because I have no idea about his salary. As for the second one, I think it's a statement made from a place of disagreeing with his methods as an armchair coach. However, in most categories of information where you can measure the outcome of how this team is playing (wins/losses, advanced stats, individual performances on the whole) I think it's clear he's done pretty well. Could someone else do better with this team? Possibly, but as you pointed out, a coach that almost everybody considers to be excellent is on the hot seat in Washington. He's currently being out-performed by Gulutzan, as are several other coaches around the league that people consider to be good.
Question GG's methods all you want, but in the end, if the team is successful, does it really matter how he goes about it? Is this not a results oriented business?

Move Brodie off the first PP. Stone and Hamilton can shot yet they are not on there. Perhaps he feels like their first unit PP is not built around point shots, when they have Monahan and Gaudreau. And Hamilton's shot isn't the big slapper, it's a hard wrister, like Monahan or Ferland can do already.
Bartkowski should have not been on the tram period. Why keep him so long? Bart was better than Kulak in camp, and a more experience guy and he was given a chance to play himself out of the early slump. He only got 8 games, which isn't a whole lot (though he went back in with the Hamonic injury, which is different)
Bennett at C. Bennett played C most of his career, was drafted as a C and was in the long term plans as a C. When he was played at wing early on, posters were clamouring for him to play C.
Stajan on the team. Earned it. You don't chuck a vet who's contributed that much without giving him every opportunity. Plus, until the Glass waiver,
there wasn't a chance to replace what Stajan does bring (especially in the faceoff circle)
Rolling 4 lines regardless of score. auto pilot coaching. A popular narrative but not actually true. Different game situations, and shift lengths sometimes dictate who plays even in end of game situations.
Passive D that gives up the blue line. Is it working? Don't see it. Flames give up a lot of goals. The Flames could play more aggresive D, but I don't think giving up the blue line is the issue. It's bad decisions, or being flatfooted.
Brouwer on PP. Not really an issue, and it worked pretty well last year. Now changed for Tkachuk or Ferland
And why are changes being made only after this board mentions it? Is he reading this board for ideas? Seems to happen a lot. Really strange. Strange that people see things the same eventually, except that he';s not as knee jerk about it?)
I like that the team is winning some games, but when the going gets tough we will need an actual game plan rather than Smith's heroics. Can GG deliver in the playoffs? I don't feel like he can.
|
Pretty much none of those are "strange" decisions, for the bolded reasons. A few of them are not true.

Great that you feel that Brodie is being utilized best. He looks like complete junk to me. And seems to be a whipping boy for many here.
Brouwer was good on the PP?
Strajan earned it? He is finished....was last year.
Don't get your point on Bennett. He is playing winng now anyways.so the coach disagrees with you.
Look you can disagree with me, that's fine, but you don't need to justify your thoughts with these "reasons" which just don't add up.
Flames are winning while having terrible special teams. Their GAA are terrible as well. Their bottom 6 forwards are not scoring and the D has been average at best in the offensive end. One of the better and deepest D in NHL looks average at best.
If not for Smith and the top line overachieving we would be right there with the Oilers. Would the opinion of GG be different then?

When, given the talent we have on defence, he demonstrates that he has a system that doesn't require Mike Smith to frequently stand on his head - even last night, we'd be down 3-0 and buried if not for Smith. Fortunately we do have Smith, and fortunately the team rallied after a couple big saves and took the game over.
On the bright side, we're finally past 50% odds to make the playoffs after last night. So that is definitely a step forward.

Sooooo you're a believer then after last night?

Came to read positive post and celebratory gifs this morning after a dominant road win against a great team. So many things to be positive about after that game.
Left unsurprised that it turned into a GG thread.
Some people truly just can't be happy

I find it funny that some posters seem to view every game in a vacuum and fail to see the larger picture here. GG's coaching strategies and philosophies are intended to allow the team to be competitive over the course of an 82 game season. The hope is that the team will be just as fresh and energized in game 82 as they are in game 1. The goal here is to win a Stanley Cup- not tire out our best players by game 50 so we can have a couple of extra W's by season's end.
The team is competitive, we are improving as the season goes on and are in striking distance of first in the division. GG isn't perfect, but a lot of the criticism I see on here isn't warranted and I would bet management views his body of work much differently than most fans do.
I haven't heard many people talk about it, but how much of the Oilers struggles this year are due to Talbot, Draisaitl, and McDavis getting way over played all of last year?

Some are happy with reservations. It was a great game. Now let's play like this more often because we won't score 4 or 5 a game all the time. Becasue the cautious side of me feels that we only had a few really complete games from this team. Far too few.

I don't understand why people just see some wins and determine that nothing that makes the coach mediocre exists anymore.
We had wins last year too. This is a brutally inconsistent team, so perhaps lets see that go away first before we start getting smug about people that don't like the coach.

Wait so, Flames lose, it's Gulutzan's fault.. player's suck, it's Gulutzan's fault..
..Flames win, players play good, it's not because of Gulutzan?
lol ok then.
