Have any examples? Who has been filing hurt feelings reports? What posts in question have you seen mods remove because they don’t want someone to get offended?

Again, I really haven’t seen any of that, but you’re asking not to have a decision made for you on what you can and can’t view, so where is that decision being made? Which example is most blatant to you?

“PC” and “the easily offended libs” has become a dog whistle for a certain type of people that can’t function in society. It’s pretty simple. In a place? Follow the rules of that place. Someone disagrees with you? Doesn’t mean they’re offended or too PC. It’s telling when people start to trot out these platitudes before they’re even relevant.

I understand why the NSFW tags are asked to be added, it does make sense and it allows the people who want to post the funny gifs that may be borderline to do so. There has to be a more aggressive stance on obvious troll posts though that have little or nothing to do with the subject and everything to do with the poster. There are certain posters on this forum that have it down to an art, they start the dog pile which turns into a mess for the moderators. The person who was attacked originally either attacks back and draws an infraction or a suspension or they just quit posting and the attacker walks away happy as can be. It is ridiculous. At least this discussion is on the FOI board instead of the OTB or I could not even participate which is absolute b.s., if I break the rules on any board I should be dealt with the exact same way as the rest of the community. I was asked not to post in anything to do with Law Enforcement and I have not nor will I. If I broke rules in the American Politics thread I should have been been binned or what have you like any other member. Instead I get a PM telling me to stay off the off topic board because I got piled on? That is called discrimination but it is your board, you can make the rules as we go right? Couldn't you just search out any moderated post? I couldn't tell you whats behind them, I'm not privy to that.

I think people are most upset that its apparent the mods or someone has moved the goalposts. That seems to have been what spurred the discussion, the consistency (or inconsistency).

I will say however I find the forum much less fun than in the past and certainly the rush of some to make accusations and pile on (I have been the recipient of a number of those on the arena discussion) makes me wonder why bother.

So you’re having less fun because posts have been moderated, without any idea about what has or hasn’t been said in them and whether or not they would have added or detracted from any possible fun?

That makes no sense.

When I see a bag of garbage outside my neighbors house, I don’t get upset because, despite having no idea what’s in the bag, I could’ve maybe used something in there. When I see a moderated post, I don’t say condemn the moderators for being fun-killers, I just naturally assume it was garbage I’d have no interest in.

If you don’t even know what’s being moderated but are upset just by be fact that *things* are being moderated, then a public forum isn’t for you.

The mods clearly need to take a page from the DOPS "Wheel of Justice". Inappropriate gif? Spin the wheel and get anything from a PM warning to a perma-ban.

Otherwise, I have no issue with the work the mods do, and hope they continue to keep things running smoothly around here. The removal of gifs isn't going to impact my participation on CP in the slightest. The constant negativity is sometimes annoying to deal with, but I've learned to avoid certain threads and not get sucked into endless debates.

One last thought -- has there been any thought to imposing a nominal membership fee to sign up? It would kick in some dollars into Bingo's server fund, might provide some incentive not to be a complete jerkoff, and would help keep banned users from re-registering under new names? If it's pay-to-play, perhaps some users might be willing to play a little nicer...

If your opinion is only held by 5% of posters you should expect 19 posts rebutting it. That isn't piling on. Having a 1:1 post and response is an equal time problem. All positions aren't equal.

You also don't have to respond to every post. Pick the most reasonable poster and grange them as opposed to the most unreasonable response.

If you knew the history there you would understand. I made the stupid mistake of talking career at one point and got endlessly trolled for it. If lets say you did something in service like an armed forces soldier and people constantly told you that they understood it was tough being a Boy Scout or a Mall Cop would you be offended? Honest question? Anyhow I am tired of it, I don't want to discuss anything pertaining to my personal life except maybe video games or other small things that can't be targeted.
