Seems like the fan base of every team are complaining about the officiating right now, and not just the old "my team lost, officials suck", but real justifiable and exemplified criticism about the poor level of officiating and lack of accountability for the refs. Makes me wonder how the discussion within the league are going on this. The silence makes the whole thing even worse. Here's an idea for starters, maybe the refs should not be above criticsism after the game? How about that?

How is hitting him in the calf with your stick as he's leaving the ice sticking up for your teammate? Then he hides behind Frolik. It's a rat move. Pointless thing to do.

He dropped the gloves after. Tkachuk does rat things but he backs them up, which to me means he's not a rat.

I have no issues with what Tkachuk did. I really love that kid.

Great player for sure, but if you watch the replay he has it already all planned out. He's skating behind the ref, following him, then he sticks his stick in there for a quick tap then quickly hides behind Frolik. Like one of you guys said. It's pointless . You're not hurting the Detroit player. You're not sending a message.

Kulak should be the one being lauded by you guys. He fought a guy much bigger than him and didn't back down. Tkachuk didn't show anything to me. Certainly not standing up for his teammates. It was a selfish thing to do that lead to Harmonic getting pummelled.

Any updates on what happened last night? Has anyone been able to find that spear?

I doubt there will be a suspension. Witkowski wasn't even in the tunnel yet and the tap from Tkachuk, who was still on the ice, re engaged him.

The rules are pretty clear. He was ordered to the dressing room, left the ice, and it does not matter for any reason, re-entered the ice. That is clear as day a 10-Game suspension.

By the rules, that is irrelevant. He was off the ice and had no right to come back on.

The only way Witkowski does not get a 10 game suspension is if the league is doing favours for Detroit. And that also should be the only suspension out of that fracas.

Sorry Gaskal, I just can't agree.

This is a veteran leader, paid excessively for the intangibles he brings.

TEam isn't ready coming out of the room?

Team needs some emotion - absent

But he's good on the PK - Detroit scores 4 PP goals.

It's yet another game where the Flames get pushed around and our big, veteran leader is completely absent all game.

If Brouwer is not here to be front and center in a game like this - before or after the brawl - then what is he doing on the roster?

haha, that detroit apparent tough guy decides to bounce a players body/head after knocking him to the ice, to then jump back on the ice. What an idiot player. Glad to see a 10 game suspension will eat up +$90k out of his little 750k salary.

Typical "mediocre franchise" loss by the flames. We've seen this for decades. Play the backup, against a lesser team, on the road, and just basically a no-show.

Also, this schedule is absolute garbage. how often do we need to have 3-4 days between games already. brutal.

I don't like the breaks but you have to admit it works out in the Flames favor as it provides the possibility of Smith being able to play. It's at the point where starting a backup goaltender appears to be automatic loss territory so if he can play it's the difference between having a chance at winning the game and no chance of winning or even competing for that matter.

Starting a back up is an auto loss? No, starting Lack is. He just hasn’t been an NHL goalie for some time now.

If Smith can’t go on Saturday, I hope Gillies gets the game. In the 1 full game he’s played, he’s proven more than Lack has as a Flame.

I tend to agree.

I'll also echo what was said earlier in the thread which is that if the decision is to go to Gillies next game, that Lack should be waived and sent down. You can't have a backup who the team is afraid to play.

My bet is that Lack gets the next start, almost a last chance type deal. He needs to win it.

Cant blame lack for most of the goals, but in this day and age goalies need to make some saves they shouldnt. Every shot i could see daylight behind Lack. He is playing deep in the net but lacks the quickness to close the holes (reacts late). Werent the rumours he has been bad in practice also, seems like his problems of last year have carried over. Better off to go with Rittich and Gilles for Smiths days off. Lack was a reclemation project that didnt reclemate.

1 in every 3 shots went in on Lack.
1 in every 4 went in on Gillies.

I thought Gillies looked more composed but at that point in the game I was likely seeing what I wanted to. Truth is it was a rough night for absolutely everyone.

Those rumours were in the first week or two of the season. By all counts Lack has been very good in practice more recently.

However good Lack may or may not appear in practice, it is patently obvious that Gulutzan doesn't actually trust him in the games. Mike Smith was on pace to play like 75 games while the coach left the backup to rot.

If the coach has no faith in the backup, the GM has to rectify the situation.

Totally missed Brouwer/Lazar holding back Mony on the bench. Jagr and Versteeg also had to hold Ferly down too.
