I don't notice Sam in the brawl. Poor fella must have been trapped on the far side of the bench with nothing to do but to crane his head to see what's going on, lol. The exact sort of environment that gets his fire up and he may as well have been watching from the pressbox!
LOL, I cannot imagine what's going through his mind, seeing all the commotion and cannot be a part of
Plus I think there's something to be said about their respective intangibles - for example, a big deal was made of Chad Johnson being a "Calgary kid" whose dream was to play here whereas I still can't look at Lack without thinking of him as a Vancouver Canuck for some reason. :-(
Yeah, passing on Elliott I understood. Had to.
Didn't mind Johnson, unless it was a cap issue
you lost me a goalies who have played 1 game. His bracket to be judged in is the workhorse bracket. Guys who have Played less than 5-7 games don’t count. Although, would love to have one of those performers. We clearly do not.
Fair enough I think I should have added a note he was 22nd and 26th out of 72 goalies for better context.
But let's say, goalies with at least 9 GP, that's 30 goalies so about 1 goalie per team. I think that's fair?
Smith is 11th in SV% and 13th in GAA. That's good, and I think those numbers are a bit lower than they could be because let's face it we've had some pretty iffy defense at times.
(You can bring that GP-limit up to 12 if you like and Smith doesn't move up a single spot, it just cuts down some guys from under him.)
However I can't agree with the narrative that we've somehow been carried by our goaltending. Smith is good, he's the upgrade we asked for and didn't cost us that much so it's a good move by Treliving. (Thus far obviously.)
Gulutzan’s comments have me worried that if Smith isn’t healthy for Saturday, Lack will get the call. I’m sorry, I know some of those goals aren’t his fault and just piss poor defense, but the team plays with no confidence when he’s in net. Time to see what Gillies can do.

Well I think salary was part of it as he signed for $2.5M in Buffalo.
But from the thread about Francis reporting Johnson could re-sign, there was this update:

So looking at it again you actually can see him - him and Monahan react at the exact same time. Poor Sam is resigned to watching the action on the Jumbotron despite being mere meters away from it; he raised his arm in the universal "What the ####" gesture and voiced it as much too.

I've predicted the loss (5:2) and now I feel really bad about it... Awful, awful, awful game.

And I'll go the other way. I think Lack has to start and you put the blame where it should be, on the skaters. If Lack doesn't start you might as well waive him because he will be done. And I am ok with that, I like the young goalies but there is no coming back from this if Lack sits in my mind.

If Ferland gets something than so will that other Detroit player that grabbed Hamonic well on the bench. I think the ahler gets the book thrown at him and a few misconducts are recinded because they were a joke.

Yeah, if 2 games is all it takes to lose faith in the guy we just brought in, it shows they had no faith in him to begin with. (And makes you question why the hell did they even get him.)

I believe the player that grabbed him was Athanasiou. Both him and Ferland attempted to get involved in the scrum while on the bench, but no one actually threw punches. Either both get the same suspension or both are let off, but then again banhammering one and not the other seems like something the Detroit refs tonight would do.

So Lack gives us a goalie with very comparable numbers to Johnson (though slightly worse across the board) but at half the price.
That's probably the reason we went with Lack but I still miss Johnson and, without looking too closely at the Flames overall cap situation, thought he was a very good option for backup last year and could've been this year.

Red Wings are a joke, and their final spot in the standings will show as much.
This was a good game have this happen. Right at the start of a long road trip, this will bring the group together. Great to see Hamonic, Kulak, Tkachuk, Gio, Ferly etc etc with the emotion.
Losses are bound to happen, when they come this full of lessons learned, and help bring the team together - it at least serves a purpose.
I'm really excited for Saturday's game, and was damn happy to see Gully come out against the refs post-game.
These types of games can be very important for "team building":
