Even though I find Stone a little slower on his feet than Hamonic (when they’re both healthy), I’ve been enjoying his quick shots with his top 4 time alongside Brodie. Last year it seemed Hamilton was able to get off quick little wristers effectively, but so far this season only Stones bombs (lately) seem like consistent weapons from the blue line. Anyway, just a shout out for adding extra dimensions to our offensive threats.
Stone and Brodie have been a better pair than Hamonic and Brodie. Not a slight against Hamonic, sometimes some guys just have better chemistry. This is why having a deep D corps is huge. Regardless of who’s on the 3rd pair with Kulak both have very similar salaries as well. I also hope Stone replaces Versteeg on the PP. His bomb is much more useful than Versteeg’s cross ice pass or weak slapper.

Jake steals plenty of games when the team doesn’t play very well in front of him. If a teams’ spirit drops that bad when a goalie has a rare off night, then maybe it’s time to replace some players. It’s time for a few posters to get off Jake’s ass. He’s a great goalie and should be appreciated instead of being blamed every time he lets in a goal or 2.

Really should have signed Jagr for our third line. The guy can carry a line. Instead we've got guys like Pajaarvi, Bennett, Jaskin, Sundqvist, Barbashev, and Blais that are available to play the 3rd line. We seriously need a better third line to take some pressure off of the Top 2 lines to do everything while the 4th line puts in their work.
Quote:
Jagr stated that he "liked the situation" in Calgary better than in St. Louis. He thought he'd be able to be a bigger factor to help The Flames than The Blues. The Blues were loaded with forwards. He just didn't want to play for The Blues. Armstrong DID try to sign Jagr.

LOL at the Oliers complaining about not being able to advance prospects. With their annual top 5 pick coming directly onto the team actually putting up some numbers before regressing due to a total lack of player development and an inability to get the player the puck because their defense sucks.

Great game tonight. For the first time in many years, the Blues were unable to intimate and bully us. Made me very happy.
That said, St. Louis is the dirtiest team I’ve seen in quite some time. Constant cheap shots, running the goalie, and crosschecks to the back. The amount of holding they get away with is unbelievable. Looked like 2004 sometimes tonight. Great we were able to fight through it.
Not sure what you're intimating...

Back in 2014, one of Jankowski's teammates at Providence, Drew Brown was diagnosed with cancer. He never played another game after the diagnosis, but he was with the team during their run to the National Championship in 2015.
On Saturday, he passed away after his 3+ year battle.
Saturday night, Providence scored 7 goals in their win over UMass. Tonight, Jankowski (wearing #77) scored 2 goals and had one assist as the Flames scored 7 goals themselves.
Brown wore #7 for the Friars.

Another terrific performance by the Flames - that's four dominant outings in a row.
All of a sudden the Flames are top 10 in even-strength corsi %, even-strength fenwick %, even-strength goals %, and even-strength expected goals %. On the PDO check, the Flames are 14th with an unsustainably-high save percentage (1st) and a shooting percentage that's bound to revert toward 8.5%, from 7.1%. That said, the Flames are T3 in home games played, so the easy part of the schedule is done - time to show they can carry the run on the road. But, things are looking real. Why those numbers now? Historically, 16 games is the optimal span to judge future performance, and given early season roster shuffling, I prefer around 20 games (discounting the first few)...the fact the Flames are trending upward is a really good sign.
Back to the game tonight!
How good were the 3M line again? Zero, yes zero offensive zone starts yet all three posted possession numbers north of 58% (outshot the Blues 11-4) - only topped by Gaudreau/Monahan, who had equal offensive/defensive starts. What a line.
Johnny Gaudreau is playing out of his mind. His confidence and flair is back and it's incredible to watch. Monahan has been terrific lately as well. Both started the season defence optional but have quickly reverted to the solid two-way play they ended last season with. Last season it took them until the new year to get things sorted so the fact they are delivering at both ends a month and a half earlier is great to see.
Brett Kulak, again, looked not only like he belongs but like a top-four defenceman. He's still playing cautious, in my opinion - which is understandable given his circumstances - but he's showing more confidence as displayed by his increasing escapability and transition passing. Complete joke he wasn't the #6 to start the season.
What a night for Mark Jankowski. Love the pick, hate the pick, how could you not root for him? Nobody has taken more undue criticism than he has. Awesome to see him get on the board not once but twice, but would have loved to see him pot the empty net hatty. His routes exiting the defensive zone and through the neutral zone are solid and well-timed - really helps the defencemen make the outlet. Some more time at NHL speed and his timing and board play will improve. Safe to say he won't see the AHL again, IMO. Like Kulak, it's embarrassing he wasn't in the opening night lineup.
Curtis Lazar has no hockey sense or offensive creativity...that I've seen, anyway. Again, what in the World had the Flames' evaluators willing to give up any asset much less a second-round pick for him?
Tarvis Hamonic is really struggling. Defence is the hardest position to adjust to a new system and partner so usually I give a defenceman 50 games - and I will with Hamonic, too - but the early returns have not been good at all. Kris Russell-esque (non) gap control, frequent rimming to the puck to no one or banging it off the glass to the other team in the neutral zone, and lack of foot speed. I hope he's just on a poor run of form because the early returns are tilting the move for him toward complete robbery by the Islanders.
Hope Mike Smith is okay; he's been the MVP of the season so far and losing him now, just as the team is starting to fire on all cylinders, would be really unfortunate.

First game that I feel GG out-coached his counterpart. He recognized that Hamonic was struggling so he bumped him down. The team D was so good in front of Lack, I wonder is Smith"s puck retrieval causes them problems. Best game that the 4th line has played. Lazar still unlucky not too score.
I don't think one bit.
If you watch tonight the d was expecting some outlit passes from the goalie then realized it was Lack and had to scramble back to het the puck themselves.
The D took many more hits in their own zone tonight a few which resulted in the Blues getting the Flames to cough up the puck.
9 times out of 10 Smith's puck handling is a blessing.

What a player Colton Parayko is. Undercover top 30 defenceman in the league in my opinion. And, at 24 years old, as a right-shooting defenceman with his size, sense, and mobility, I can't say there are many defencemen I would like to have more than him. Terrific find by the Blues, right under the noses of the Alberta teams with him drafted out of Fort Mac.
One of the things I like doing live is watching the other teams' warmups, especially when they have a remarkable player to focus in on. With the Blues, that's Tarasenko. The guy's shot - release, heaviness, accuracy, everything - is just insane. A 225-pound man using an 85-flex stick would seem crazy on paper, but holy crap does his flawless technique make it work.

I think this is really over-stated at this point. I thought he was solid before he was hurt, and coming back from injury this game makes this commentary seem really ill timed as well.
