Default Nintendo Wii launch Nov. 19

Anybody know where the best place to get a Wii is? The Walmart in Shawnessy is getting 32 in for sunday and opening at 8am. The EB games in Southcentre is getting 50 and selling them on a 1st come 1st serve basis at 11am when the mall opens.

This launch shouldn't be even a fraction as stupid as the PS3 launch because there should be litterally 10 times more machines out there.

Anybody know how many units Best Buys and Future Shops will be getting?

Go Zelda!

Im in Athabasca, so Im going into Edmonton tommorow morning to get the Wii from Futureshop on 170th street.

I called yesterday and the girl said she was not sure how many units they were getting exactly, but it would be a hell of a lot more than the PS3

It doesn't sound like there will be a problem with supply at either of FS or BB. I thought I read somewhere that one of them is guaranteeing them to be in stock - don't quote me on that one though.

I won't be rushing out to buy one but this is the first time in a long time that I am interested in getting a Nintendo product. The whole new joystick concept - especially the nunchuck - looks like it will be a blast. I'm looking forward to hear the reviews from those who play it...I'll probably still get a PS3 (in 5 years ) but may get the Wii just for kicks - I mean, the kids will like it...

Me and some buddies are camping out all night at Best Buy tonight.

HUGE Nintendo fans, and Zelda is going to be amazing, so we consider it worth it.

Just to update a bit the Best Buy in Glendeer Cicle is getting 91 units, the Future Shop in there is getting 57 and EB has 12 to sell to the public after pre-orders. All the people at the stores I talked to expected to sell out their allotment tomorrow.

I've pretty much ignored the Wii outside of the weird controller... I know Zelda is a launch title, and the price is right.

But is the system capable of 16:9 and Hi-Def signal?? Wireless is standard right? Does it play movies? Is the controller wireless?

Why are people going so wild for this? Outside of Zelda, a Gamecube port which does look like a good game. It really is just Gamecube.5+Nunchuk's.

I'll get one because it's relatively cheap but I don't see the hype.

edit: Oh yeah, please don't tell me you need a memory card for it... is there a HDD built in?

You make a good point...Nintendo might have something going with this innovative control, but in two years the graphics on this thing will look really dated. I'm not sure how much of a lifespan this console will really have. Good thing its cheap.

It's extremely innovative, for one. Developers are making games for the console that can't be made anywhere else, and as such you're going to be getting completely unique experiences. Sure some of them may have cheap tacked on controls (Call of Duty 3, for example), but a lot of games are going to offer really intuitive ways to play, such as Trauma Centre, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, Wario Ware: Smooth Moves, and others.

It's going to be a FANTASTIC party system, and great for getting people who don't usually play games to take part. I mean come on, playing a tennis game where you actually swing the racket is going to be a blast, and the console comes with Wii Sports, a simplistic but addicting compilation of bowling, tennis, golf, boxing, and baseball.

Not to mention Zelda is the best launch title ever. Couple that with future killer games like Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl (fully online), Metroid Prime 3, the 'Virtual Console', where you can download a multitude of past hits from previous Nintendo consoles for a very small fee, and the literally UNLIMITED potential for innovative and original games, as well as tremendous support from third parties already, and you can not go wrong picking up a Wii.

Also, didn't people say PSP would blow DS out of the water because DS was technically inferior and the PSP's graphics blew it away. Hmm, how'd that turn out?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_wii Answered alot of my questions... looks... interesting. Outside of 1st party games, it looks like a weak system.

But from the reviews of Zelda, It looks worthy of a purchase.. i'm not at all into gimmicky games like Trauma Center, ect...

I dunno Madden 07 looks like it will be great with the Wii controls. Red Steel also looks like a good time

I'll be getting one in the near future. I can afford a PS3 or 360 but I think they are overpriced especially in my situation. I own four computers with much more capability than either of those systems and most games I want come out on PC in any case.

The Wii is innovative and different. The first party games will likely be exceptional for the most part if their past history counts for anything. The controller intriques me to say the least. I guess for me the PS3 and 360 are same old, with better graphics and speed. This machine is just very different.

What a joke.

Went to Walmart, didn't get one.
Went to superstore, didn't get one.
Went to Best Buy, didn't get one.
Went to Futureshop, didn't get one.
Went to Zellers, didn't get one.
Went to Toys R Us, didn't get one.
Went to Blockbuster, didn't get one.
Went to Rogers, didn't get one.

What a waste of a hangover morning. I should of just lined up after the bar.....

My boyfriend went to Futureshop/Best Buy at Northland Mall at 5:30am because he saw people camping outside the night before.
He still didn't get in, (despite the fact that the stores were getting a combined like 150). Luckily, his friend was driving around the city and they got one from Zellers (which also sold out before 7am and they open at 9)
People are very dedicated to their systems...
