Anyone listening to the coach on 960 right now?
Quick recap of what I've heard (my take, not verbatim)
- Score more
- Hard for teams on 2nd game of back to back to play from behind, so kudos to the Canucks
- Plenty of excuses for not playing their best at home. Lots of outside influences.
- Score more

Man he is frustrating to listen to. Home ice is where a good coach can influence the game. I feel the home record will suffer due to GG being so set in his ways.

Rhett wasn't helping matters any by feeding Gulutzan all those excuses, who then pretty much agreed with all of them. Sure he was being polite, but I hope the coach really doesn't think playing at home is a distraction.

So are we going to do this after every single loss? If so, I'm taking a break from this board.

No Toonage, it's about his showing his moral superiority in general. Same with PepsiFree and FireGilbert.

GG is a mediocre coach. Period. He does little you expect of a coach at this level. There are too many times the Flames look ill prepared to play and it takes a period or two for them to get their legs under them. There are too many times where the Flames can't adjust to what the other team is using or giving the Flames. There are too many times where he plays favorites and uses guys that should be fired into the sun. He is right up there with Greg Gilbert for bad coaches. If GG was sacked, he'd be out of the game for the next five years until some junior team was desperate enough to hire him. This is a team that needs an experienced coach with a track record of winning and preparing his team properly. GG is not that guy.

WOW.
No, I'm just saying if people are going to be vitriolic and hyperbolic after every loss, I don't need it. Yeah, some mistakes happened last night. Yeah, some criticism is warranted. However, people only talk about the negatives and do little to put things in perspective.
If you're convinced that he's a bad coach and that everything bad that happens to this team is his fault, then go for it. I don't need to read it though.

What's wrong with certain posters taking the high road? Sure beats the opposite all of the time.
And I'm not criticizing your posts or anything, but the highs after a win, to the lows after a loss on these boards lately, no wonder the pharmaceutical companies are millionaires.

The coaching staff has to take some heat. They're not getting the most out of the players, their PP choices, some of their line choices during the game (bottom pair and fourth line against other team's top line), keeping the goalie in at times when a change is needed, the lack of emotion, the team's poor work ethic...there just seems to be too many reasons to not blame some of this on the coaching staff.
The players do need to take a lot of the heat though. Some guys just aren't producing now if that's because the coach has "lost the room" or they're just tuning him out then unfortunately something has to be done. IMO they should be looking at new options for a bench boss.

By all means, feel free to criticize. No need to hedge. SportsJunky wants to call my comment a pot/kettle argument, fair enough. I'll never claim to always take the high road, but neither are the three posters I called out by name. All three posts had one thing in common: "Stop talking about what I don't want to read". Well, they are posting in a thread about the abilities of a coach that many people find lacking. They knew what today's posts were going to be about, but rushed in anyway to show how superior they are by browbeating anyone for daring to have bad words to say.
If they don't want to read it, that's cool. Nobody has ever tied them to a chair and forced them into these threads against their will. But people do want to talk about it, and they will continue to do so, no matter how many times times CPF threatens to leave if we don't conform to his expectations.

Pretty much this.
On the Sutter coaching scale he's no Darryl, but he's no Brent either. Maybe a solid Brian.

For all of you who want GG gone, is there an obvious solution out there that can step in and fix everything immediatley?
Bringing in a new coach a quarter way through the season may make things worse than you all seem it is. And it's not guarantee to get better.
I just don't see things as terribad as you guys are seeing it

Actually my post said feel free to criticisize GG in any way you want, but there’s no reason to call another Flames’ fan’s opinion idiotic or that they’re simply “pretending” things are one way simply because they disagree.
I really don’t care if you criticisize GG. I’ve grown less and less convinced of his ability with every game. But what I do think is sad is that we have to be antagonistic to each other surrounding the one thing we can all agree to love and enjoy: Flames hockey.
It’s not politics. We’re all on the same side. It’s just sad that some people forget that on the way to making themselves heard. FOI is the one place where we should have an inherent respect for each other, and posts like the one I quoted just show a complete lack of it.
But that’s just my opinion. If you take offence that I wanted to say we don’t need to go calling each other idiots over opinions on a game that’s supposed to be entertainment, then rail away on the browbeaters.

I would love the coaching staff to try putting Stone on a PP unit as he has a great shot.
But there's more to just having a great shot. So much of a Pp is possession.
Who's to say that they haven't tried this in practice and Stone wasn't capable as others at keeping the puck in the zone and making quick decisions. I'm sure the coaching staff is more than capable to recognize that Stone has a booming shot that would be good on the Pp but maybe there's other factors

Love this concept.
You are under rating Brian, who was a good coach IMO.
GG has to win a playoff game before I would be prepared to put him ahead of anybody on the Sutter scale.

Brian Sutter won an Adams. I know that means next to nothing here, but I'd put GG ahead of Brent based on the fact he actually made the playoffs.
