LOL

Game #1 w/o Hamonic - "Why did we give up those picks for Hamonic?! Stone is just as good!"

Game #2 w/o Hamonic - "One of this team's most important players... really missing him."

I did like his play on the power play goal, but I think he needs a game or two sitting to see what his linemates can do.
The problem with Bennett is between his ears IMO. He's too sensitive and his confidence is so fragile right now. He tries to hard and needs to relax a bit and work with his linemates.

There is your explaination.
So there's NO scenario where your "best player" gets taken out of the game? Do you even watch hockey?

Gulutzan is a pretty stubborn coach in his lack of changing it up. You're playing catch up and you have nothing to lose. Why not shuffle lines and shorten the bench. Cut out the liabilities at that point, rather than continue to ice them in hopes that they'll flip a switch and do the unthinkable. It's just sensible, intelligent bench managing given the situation, you'd think. He continues to manage the game as if the game were tied, and it's hard to really understand the rationalization - namely after a back breaking goal. Which then led to another shortly after.

And what is your point?

We've won a few we should have lost and lost a few we should have won. It all tends to even out in the end.

Can't concede 5 goals and expect to win, no matter how good Markstrom was

The problem isn't that Bartkowski is an awful ECHL caliber hockey player.

The problem is that this coaching staff and GM think that he has anything to offer the Flames. It is hard to trust that they actually know how to put together a good hockey team when he gets the minutes he does.

However, the problem tonight wasn't Bartkowski, it was the very casual play of some of the supposed better players in the lineup. Monahan still can't win a puck battle or make a zone entry, Tkachuk didn't do a heck of a lot, and Brodie completely flubbed the third goal. Gio and Hamilton continue to get lost playing the man. Smith looked human.

Positives are that Ferland is seriously a good player, Jagr is still amazing at times, and Gaudreau is really really good. I just wish the team had one more guy on his level.

Courtesy of Steinberg... 5v5 possession of 62.2% for the Flames and high danger chances were 15-8 in favour of the Flames.

What game did you watch? The top line was dominant and the 3M line was just fine.

If you're going to complain, at least pick something relevant.

You don't realise how valuable a guy is until he's injured and out of the lineup. That said Bart and Kulak were not that bad tonight. Bart created some chances and Kulak was guilty of not having any backuo support of the Sedin goal.

The same people that complain when we steal one are saying the Canucks played the better game because they won.

Pretty great game from the Flames, just couldn't get the bounces and lost on a couple plays.

The SH goal was killer, not sure what happened with Brodie there. I'd love to see Stone on that PP instead of Versteeg.

Also didn't like seeing the 4th line + 3rd D pair out after the go ahead goal in the 3rd, which resulted in the insurance goal.

Oh well, we play that exact game 100 times and we probably win 95 of them.

As an aside, the 25ish year old guy in front of me was a CP Game Thread personified. He was throwing a hissy fit in the 3rd in front of his parents and it was both fascinating and hilarious to watch.

Fun game to watch at least. The battle between Markstrom and Gaudreau decided the game imo. Vancouver capitalized on their chances, even though they were badly outplayed in the 2nd period. That was a win for them in their books to come out even into the 3rd.

On to the next one! I'll see if I can get the GDT tread started early enough on Thursday... PM me links to any great Wings/Flames pics, that would be great.

I liked the game. On replay we win it 9 out of 10 times.

Couple brain dead plays but we dominated 55 minutes.

7 minutes left and the 4th line was out with the 3rd pairing and got hemmed in for a minute.

Just doesn't make sense to me.

People calling for the coach to be fired, what do you expect him to do?

People suggesting he ride his top lines. That doesn't work in the modern NHL. This is an 82 game season, you can't burn out players in November, it's short sighted. All four lines need to contribute. If the third and fourth line can't handle ~12 minutes a game, they need to play better. That's the reality. If they can't then this team can't succeed anyway.

Vancouver reminds me of Calgary circa 2014/15. No expectations, but they are finding ways to win thanks to an emerging 1C (Horvat), hot shot rookie on the wing (Boeser), secondary scoring from unlikely sources (Dorsett), and adequate to above average goaltending. Not sure if they can keep it up all year but stranger things have happened.
Totally agree. I felt the same way with Vancouver's luck tonite. Badly beaten in possession game but finds way to win, circa Flames 2014-15. Also nothing to lose for them. No expectations much like the Flames 2014-15.

Guess I'm just less confident in that things will even out if the continue down the same path with the same system with the same quality of play. Yes our record looks decent thus far, but I don't think many would argue a large part of that is Smith standing on his head. Can he continue that all season?

I see your point, I'm just less confident.
