Spoiler!

This is my peak of beard growing (and sassiness). I’m growing it out again now, about 3 weeks in.

Because I am half Asian, I am unable to grow any semblance of facial hair.

Unless you are one of the 1/100,000 Asians who can grow a beard, we are out of luck.

Just so all you long bearded people know - I think you all look like you're growing long pubes on your face.

I've noticed that this isn't true actually. The Japanese and Koreans seem to grow facial hair, including beards quite easily.

I’m half Italian. Every Italian girl I grew up with was hairier than me.

Rust & Pine makes some great beard oils and balms. and a wooden beard comb is a must.

I had the huge Thornton/Burns beard until recently. it got to almost a foot long, but took off about 5 inches of beard and shaped it.
It was fun for a bit to have that huge beard, but I'd rather have a cleaner look.

One tip I’ll pass along that I wish I had gotten early: buy a pair of trimming scissors (mine are just from the drug store, but there are some great ones on Amazon that will likely last longer). Trim your moustache hairs every once in a while so that they reach just above your upper lip.

Nothing turns a lady off quicker than going in for a kiss and getting a mouth full of oiled-up facial hair.

My beard has always played nice, simple to maintain but looking at growing out a little longer. Don't want to get dry and flaky.

Peak Beard
Spoiler!

Current Beard
Spoiler!

I've had a beard for about 7 years now. I use coconut oil every day. Just about the size of a quarter will do ya.

I've had some periods of very dry skin underneath. I've actually dumped baby oil all over my face on a few occasions to get some relief. Now I use a dandruff shampoo about once a week and a coconut oil conditioner every day.

I have been with beard for about a year now. I'm kinda neurotic with its upkeep I use a beard wash, conditioner and oil do I need to ? Maybe not but I have never had one bout of dry skin or irritation with my beard and my neck hasn't gotten itchy since 3-4 days into my initial growth. I've been using the Blue Beard brand of wash and conditioner consistently but I switch my oils up currently I'm using some from Big Red.

Oh, and I buy all my stuff from Kent of Inglewood. Yeah they might not be the cheapest but they have selection and quality. Your beard is an investment in time treat it that way.

Everyone has kind of said everything else:
- buy some decent scissors
- keep it trimmed and neat
- it's hair treat it that way
- buy a comb, comb that ####. Combing your beard feels majestic and wonderful. You can solve lots of problems in life while combing your beard and staring off into the distance.

If it's itchy, don't wash it and eat lots of greasy/saucy BBQ.

It'll moisturize, and it's tasty hours later!

I use this wash https://www.fendrihan.ca/collections...usy-beard-wash

And this instead of wax or oil https://www.fendrihan.ca/collections...-beard-control

This brush https://www.fendrihan.ca/collections...ade-in-germany

I have pretty course facial hair and found that to get it under control with oil made it greasy, wax worked well but I found I went it through it to fast and I can't justify spending that much on a beard product. The balm seems to the best and lasts quite a long time.

This doesn't count...

Jokes aside, the beard ratio of asians vs non-asians is pretty substantial and noticeable. Sure some of them can grow one. But it's pretty accurate overall I would say that most simply cannot do it to the capabilities the white man can. I also think it's more of a cultural thing to grow facial hair here. Having been to Asia many times, you don't even see that many guys with face stubble that possibly could grow beards, let alone actual beards or moustaches.

Ok, I've been at it for a couple months now and things are going well. The beard oil and good brush have made all the difference. No itchiness at all. Some days I even forget it's there.

However, I'm at the point that I think I need to knock it back a bit. Getting pretty bushy. I've had a small braun electric trimmer to keep the mustache part from growing over my top lip but I need something better.

What do you guys use for an adjustable trimmer? I recall seeing ads a while back about a small battery powered one that had an adjustable (1mm increments) guard but forget what it was. What do you guys use?

Also, when trimming for length, with the grain or against? Really not sure what's the right way to do that.

I've been growing a beard for a couple months now and I haven't used any oils or anything. Is it really that much of an improvement to use the oils? My beard doesn't bug me at all, just have to keep the nose ticklers trimmed and the ones that try to get eaten.

It is a little bit unruly though.

That's where the oil helps I think. I've taken to using a conditioner every now and again. Drying it off as much as I can after a shower and then oiling/brushing. Helps keep it under control.
