There is zero issue with what we're paying our #4 and #5 D right now. If anything, tonight showed how good it was to have Stone step up into our top four.
Really odd thing to take issue with.

Not that odd. We entered the game 31st in the league in goals per game. Treliving spent the summer spending money and draft picks on defence and goalies and finally dropped a modest amount of money on Jagr after training camp was done. At a minimum it's debatable that some of the money and assets spent on getting two 4/5 guys at 3.5 - 4m each would have been better spent on offensive help particularly given the number of prospects we have pushing to make the club.

SN is rebroadcasting the game right now...
It's good working from home.

That is fair, but this decision had two sides: The Flames were in a position to make choices between a pair of promising defensive prospects to make the jump to the NHL, or to trust that young players like Bennett and Jankowski were ready to become contributing, offensive players. I don't think it is a given that they would have been better off opting to spend assets on offence as opposed to defence. But I am quite sure that the level of depth Treliving has created on defence will prove to be more useful and potentially valuable later in the season and into the playoffs. So, it may look like an oversight today, but by the end of the season I would be surprised if anyone is still bemoaning the presence of both Stone and Hamonic on the roster.

I do appreciate the good goaltending. Smith had a few bad ones last night, but he's been so good this season you don't hear the moaning and groaning about bad goals that we had the last few years.
New Jersey might not be a flash in the pan. They looked good, and really fast, and they have strong goaltending. They could be a surprise playoff team, maybe even win a round.

I think looking at the roster one month in when the offense has been largely snake bitten and suggesting it equates to wishing we'd rolled with a Kulak-Bartowski (or other rookie) bottom pairing for this season is just swapping one problem for another.
I don't see much to complain about with our defense 1 through 5.
It's that money (and roster spots) being spent on Brouwer and Stajan that's a real detriment right now.

As long as the colour commentary isn't coming from Charlie Simmer I'm good.

The big thing with Ball and Hrudey is it sounds like they are having fun doing the game. I don't think Hrudey is super insightful or anything, they just have a good chemistry together. Ball is pretty good at getting that with most colour guys he's with but its not there with Campbell yet.

The only complaint I have about Cassie is she's another broadcaster that pronounces the word another as "anether".
Mike Johnson did as well, and I see they're both from Ontario. Is it a regional thing?

The Flames broadcasts these days feels like watching the Olympics. Mono-tone former athletes struggling to put coherent sentences together, often with long awkward silences. It's distracting - I would much rather a professional colour commentator to complement Rick Ball.

I've got to eat some crow when it comes to Micheal Ferland. He has really stepped up the past couple of games and the result is Gaudreau and Monahan consistently putting up points. He doesn't hit as hard or as often as I'd like to see, but the line is humming along and it looks like he has the right mix of skill and grit to fit in.
Now, hopefully Jagr can help Jankowski and Bennett actually produce some goals. The Flames are already a handful and I think they are going to be deadly once the bottom half of the roster starts chipping in.

I still like Hamonic and I like his cap hit. But I'm not convinced that he was worth what we gave up for him especially if we were signing Stone as well. But I understand the logic and hope it works out. I'll suspend judgment but I don't think it's beyond debate that we couldn't have shored up the club elsewhere. The fact that we burned up so many picks for these moves creates a legitimate expectation that they will make the club significantly better. Still lots of time to establish that but I can't blame people for being a little sceptical so far. I felt the same way about Smith but at this early point in the season, Treliving appears to have hit a homerun on that one.
Treliving seemed to have a vision for what he wanted for this season. Time will tell if he made the right moves or not.

With his speed and shot, I think Ferland could put up 20, which is a good trade off for a few hits.

I don't mind the broadcasts but I do miss Hrudey a bit. I used to give him the Francis treatment which I admittedly wish I could take back now. It's cringey watching him sit around with the Oiler fanboys at SNET and have go along with the McDavid fawning. Poor guy, but he's probably getting paid.

I hope that being such a puck-hound rubs-off on everyone else.

Agree with most of your post, but did Johnny stop 'whining', or did he just stop getting slashed in the hands 20 times a game?

I agree, probably a case of him not being targeted nearly as much, therefore not reacting so strongly when the odd slash happens

I watch the games on mute now because I can't stand listening to Cassie Campbell, she is awful and of course Sportsnet now has her working every Flames game. She needs to go and Hrudley needs to come back.

She isn't working every game, just the ones when Hrudey is doing HNIC on the weekends. Hrudey worked the Flames game before this one, vs Pittsburgh.
