Yes, they could have. Which is why this will likely prompt more people to CC to places like church.
Its a neverending game of one-upsmanship between gun violence and those trying to stop gun violence. Which is why the fact America has such a gun culture is so impossible to reverse. You'd basically need all the criminals and crazies to guve up their guns before the sane 95% will.
So are you advocating for something to happen in regards to the gun issue, or for everyone to just carry on as per usual?

I found it quite amusing that someone would say "stop this identity politics crap" to a post which is basically saying "it shouldn't be about the shooters identity".
Which is why I'm genuinely confused.
Did Resurrection make a rather good joke (IMO obviously) by contrasting the expectation of what "identity politics" is with the (sort of) definition of it, or did he make a really bizarre comment that makes no sense whatsoever.
I went with latter I guess because I'm a cynic :/

This thread WILL become about the shooters identity and politics.
I was thinking about ways to stop gun violence in the US the other day. The only way they'll ever get people to turn in their guns, is to offer a significant monetary incentive. So what if the US introduced Universal Basic Income, but to receive it you have to turn in your guns and agree to never own or store a gun on your property. One thing Americans might like more than their guns is free money.

One of the biggest parts of UBI is that it replaces existing social programs and is indexed to income, its not "free money". So you'd be saying that we are going to take away your food stamps and EI, and in order to get them back, you need to surrender your personal property to do so. You're also supporting allowing the government unlimited access to private homes whenever they wish to ensure compliance. No one would ever support that part alone.

These shootings, most shootings are not carried out by 'criminals and crazies' they are carried out by normal law abiding gun owners who are entirely unremarkable right up until they blow their families brains out then drive down to the church/company/court house and start blasting away at random strangers or any one else they perceive to have held them back kept them down stole their wife, job kids or the like.
I know you don't like to think this way but I am safer with my gang member foster kids and their drug dealing friends than I ever was with my alcoholic regularly unemployed middle aged brothers in law who all had guns and hated them feminazis and liberals who ruined their lives (this is Winnipeg by the way, not even Kansas or Missouri)
It is ordinary citizens you cant trust with a gun

Jordan Peterson was on Jocko podcast this week and really broke down the mentality of these shooters in a way I never appreciated. Now it makes sense.
The story of Cain and Abel teaches how a man struggling to have his efforts recognized and accepted by the universe eventually lashes out against the perfect man and reality (God) itself through the revenge killing. It is an action made in pure contempt for existence itself.
The more innocent the victims, the more revenge it exacts.
I've never thought about it that way but now I do and it seems very clear.
Was an interesting segment. Gun control won't do much to quell ancient evil urges that, frankly, are part of every one of us to some degree.
[Aside] searching on youtube brings up a full lecture on the parable and some interesting follow up.

Of course it wont but that's not the point of gun control, the point of gun control is to limit the body count those urges cause, this numpty only has a kitchen knife 25 people are still alive. If he just has a bolt action hunting rifle or old fashioned shot gun then chances are at least 15 or 20 of them are still alive

The shooter has been described as a young white male who was dressed in all-black "tactical-type gear" and wearing a ballistic vest, Martin told reporters.
