Haven't seen anyone mention the nifty move he made before he passed it to Gio. Wow the guys a stud!

Good game, good win with many heart attack moments. No much more you can say other then that game was all Smith for the most part. But Tkachuk is a beauty as it that whole line. Hamilton's best game. I like that Janko and Bennett is a thing.
BS non call on Backlund in OT. Mike Smith is literally King Jesus.

Pens played a classic Flames B2B loss. Came out like gang busters trying to get an early lead, couldn't, and then faded as the game went on. It was a mirror image of the Flames @ St. Louis.

Things that stood out:
Kulak was great for his role. Much better that Bartkowski.
Smith was fantastic.
Crosby was shut down for most part.
Johnny was buzzing.

I'm happy about the win, but if you think this team is going anywhere playing like that, you're setting yourself up for a hurt, real bad.

Still you could have let everyone celebrate and brought this up later. Most here are aware the Flames have things to improve on but come on lets enjoy the win!

Kulak finished with a 60% corsi for. They need to keep him in the lineup.

This is not a run around the room jumping and screaming win. This is "whew, we aren't below .500 again thanks to Mike Smith and the our top guys".
This team has problems. Show me the evidence otherwise. Mike Smith stole that win.
When did it become a problem to be honest when you assess a performance? Why are so many posters jumping on me for this? I gave the credit where it was due. And I gave the criticism where it was due? When did we decide every fan had to be a complete homer or they were out of the cp club?

Fair points, sorry if I was a little harsh there, I guess it’s been the backlund_socks of the forums that really have been amping some of these threads up. I just think last season is a perfect example of not losing our cool in the first month of the season, people are calling for Gulutzan’s head and saying he’s on thin ice are a little out to lunch this early in the season when he proved he could get this team playing at a consistent high level for big chunks of the season last year. There are things I’m not liking in this team right now - there is no doubt about it, and I do echo some of those opinions, but this team is still digging out wins and finally has stability in its weakest areas from recent years past.
All in all I think we need to take a bit more of a leveled approach here, not too pessimistic not too optimistic at this point because it’s just too early.
It’s a winning game thread though!! The funny gifs, the ATL report, the funny banter, that’s what make them awesome!

The Flames beat the champs, and the best player in the world. While not playing their best themselves. I will take that all day long.
To me it means that, when they play better (which they surely can), I've got one word. "Look out".

Criticism is fine, and yes, this was far from a perfect game. But your level of concern and alarm is REALLY excessive. It is not “honesty” you are promoting, it is closer to despondency.

You knew the Flames would come out flat after that many days off.
Thank crap we have Smith now, if that was Elliot we would have been down 4-0 ten minutes in.
Great to see the Flames settle down after that and play well the rest of the way. Toe to toe with the Cup champs.

Pens could of easily finished this in the 1st if Smith didn't stand on his head. Glad Flames got the W. Mistakes will be made just correct them soon. Overall Flames had a decent month, if they can play above .500 hockey in November they will be in a good spot.

I think the Flames should try to acquire Carl Hagelin from Pittsburgh. He'd inject some speed into their bottom-six which they sorely lack, and he's been a healthy scratch this year.
I'd add a 5th to Stajan for Hagelin.

I hear that. I see the potential in this line up. I couldn't have imagined that Smith would be such a factor early on. I don't believe the Flames have reached their final form at all.

Well there is a pretty easy prediction. They ain't exactly firing on all cylinders so far and only MVP Smith has got them where they are in the standings. Geez it will be some kinda ugly hockey if they don't improve on what they have shown this season. So yes I can agree with that bold prediction!

Larsson is better than any dman on the Flames. He is easily an elite top pairing dman. It's no coincidence Klefbom always seems to have the poorer plus/minus even when playing the majority of time with Larsson.
Klefbom is a work in progress and I've never been as high on him as most here.
I would definitely take Russell over Hamonic. I see nothing to make me believe that Hamonic is better... not his defense... not his offense.. not his ability to stay healthy... not even his contract.
Hamonic gets paraded around as this near top pairing awesome dman when his play has long since declined from anywhere near that level.

Man you've really jumped the shark. What a homer post. Who could with a straight face say that Larsson is better than any Flames D and that Russel is better than Hamonic. c'mon, that's absolutely ridiculous.
Russel wouldn't even make the Flames lineup today.
