Really?
I'm WAY more worried about the defensive game, or lack there of.
The goals will come, but (holy crap) how often is a team gonna win giving up the amount of quality scoring chances they did?
Love the win but something absolutely has to give and get better.

I'm happy about the win, but if you think this team is going anywhere playing like that, you're setting yourself up for a hurt, real bad.

After rough start, #Flames end up winning scoring chance battle. High danger chances 15-13, 5v5 possession 53.4%.
I thought the Flames got better as the game went on after that real bad first. Holding teams like the Caps and Pens to only 1 goal is nice to see.

Zero depth scoring through a month + of hockey (no scoring when the top-6 isn't on the ice)
Lots of players don't appear to be able to hit the broad side of a barn.
We make every backup goalie look like an all-star.
We are probably the team with the lowest shooting percentage and GF of any team above .500.
... It gets said too much, and I'm starting to repeat myself, but I suspect Gulutzen's days are numbered if things don't sort themselves out immediately. I said the next 3 games would be crucial after they fell below .500, even though they've won, it hasn't been convincing at all.
Tkachuk is a gamer. Smith is an all-star.

Ya think?!
Tkachuk was amazing
Smith was great
Flames played with jam
1st was a stinker and they rallied back to BEAT THE STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS
Jankowski looked dangerous all night
Bennett played with a sickle
Defence pushed back on a lot of dangerous chances
and you're unhappy.
MAN it must be hard to have fun around you.

Thought all D pairs looked great tonight. They all have excellent positioning and are always aware where their partners are. Bartkowski can stay upstairs.
Shoutout to Backlund who’s excellent forechecking lead to Jarry giving away the puck to Tkachuk. Everyday I thank the Oilers for passing on him at the draft. He’s going to piss them off for years.
Smith is playing like a Vezina candidate so far this year. Love his compete, love that he gets pissed off when scored on.
Jankowski looked fantastic, Bennett look good and was aggressive and Ferland’s finally on PP #1, much deserved.

They had multiple days off and were bad in the first
Better team in the 2nd and 3rd against the cup champs...I have no issues with this win. They play that 2nd/3rd period game all season and we are in for a very exciting season

No, they came out flat in the 1st after a long layoff, then were the better team through the 2nd and 3rd. They also shut down the best player in the NHL and possibly the 2nd best as well. We just beat the SC champs and your post is all doom and gloom with a little nod to Mike Smith and Chucky at the end. If we play like we did in the 2nd and 3rd guess what? We are going somewhere.

Great teams gut out wins like this.
You knew Pitty was gonna come out flying on a back to back and they handed it to the Flames in the first - we weathered the back to back defending champs well in the first and even pushed back near the end of the first and had solid 2nd and 3rd periods. And yea Smith was huge for us but can’t we be thankful we finally have a goalie that can carry a team through important times??? It’s 3-0 if it’s Hiller, 2-0 if it’s Elliott tonight. Same goes for Johnson and Ramo, Ortio, MacDonald, McBackup and on and on. Can’t people be friggen happy for once with this team??
We aren’t playing to our 100% level clearly but at this time last year many doom and gloomers were drafting top 3 and writing the season off after a 2-7-1 start. Now we have a good start and look poised to start pushing here; Johnny has 16 points, Mony is flying, MMM line is as sexy as ever, Bennett is due, Janko is finally staying... we have Jaromir freaking Jagr for crying out loud.
Give your head a shake man. Things aren’t that bad and they could get great once the depth starts producing and they are due - all of our top players right now are being top players.

Tkachuk was a 70%CF% player tonight on the Backlund/Frolik line playing against Crosby. ZS ratio was only 17%. They got buried in the defensive zone against the best player in the world but get 70% towards thier net.

Bad start but they were the better team in the second and third as that other poster showed with the stats from Steinberg.
If they play like they did in the final 40 they will be fine as they outshot and outchanced the Pens over those two periods.

Team gave up 40+ shots on a team playing their second night in a row. They didn't score for basically the entire game against a rookie goalie with a sub .900 save percentage. But yea, I'm the no fun downer. Let's just pretend they slaughtered them and anyone who disagrees must be a misanthrope...

Yep, sure the Pens had 44 shots but we outchanced them, and took over as the game went on.

It already has. Yes, there were too many SoG allowed tonight, but this is NOT a trend. The past five games before this one the Dlames have been top five in the NHL in shots surrendered.
The Penguins are the Stanley Cup champions. I did not see the first period, nor the first 4 mins of the second, but they looked very good from that point after I started watching.
