With the NFL? Run the clock. Boring... Comebacks? Rare.

So I guess we're agreeing to disagree then?

Change no other rules, except to use the 20 second play clock in the NFL instead of 40, and scoring will go up down south, simply because more plays can be completed in a game.
I find it funny how you hate the CFL because there are so many 2 and outs, yet it is too easy to score 30 points. So really, what is it? Is it too easy to move the ball, or not hard enough to move the ball?

I never said I hated the CFL. I like the CFL but the NFL is better IMO. In the CFL it seems like it's one or the other. There can be both when we the Argos beating the snot out of Hamilton 50-3.

I much prefer the NFL. As several others have stated, the calibre of athlete is better so to me its like trying to watch the Hitmen along with the Flames. The Hitmen just don't match up.
Plus I like the ability in the NFL to actually set up a drive. Grind it out and go down the field. Along with that comes a better running game.
Plus I think this sets up for more tactical play by the coaches.
I appreciate the more open game of the CFL its not a terrible product, I just prefer the NFL.

NFL of course. The best athletes, more competitive, bigger stadiums. It's a laundry list of things why the NFL is the most covered and beloved sport in the world.
I like hockey more though.

So the NFL is better because it is both too easy and too hard to move the ball in the CFL?

I have always followed both the CFL and the NFL with my heart being with the CFL. As another has already said, though, the CFL just keeps on pulling bush league stunts which draws me further and further away. It's about even right now. I love cheering for the underdog, but the CFL just keeps proving it's just a dog.

NFL. 3 downs??? I'm sorry... but no. I like the field dimensions but they REALLY need to go to 4 downs. the Talent in the CFL is so watered down it's not even funny.

CFL is waaaaaay better, 3 downs, 20s play clock, NO fair catch, bigger field
NFL 4 downs, 40s play clock, fair catch, waaaay to much running of the clock, tiny field compared to the CFL
There are alot more comebacks in the CFL also, I remember the Riders were 2 or 3 touchdown's down with 0:48 left on the clock in the 4th quarter 2 years ago, they got a touchdown and a onside kick, came back to win the game, sux for those people who decided to leave taylor field because they were losing.
GO ROUGHRIDERS GO!!!!

I've got to go with the Canadian Football League. Just like at the two final games this year. The Montreal-Edmonton final was one of the best football games I've ever seen with every exciting element possible.
On the flip side, I can't even remember who Pittsburgh played for the championship. Another hyped up NFL game that isn't half as exciting as a CFL game.

For tv viewing NFL is a great game to watch big budget with graphics and camera angles and all around great job breaking down every play. Live I find the game very slow and nearly as interesting to watch. CFL garbage telecasts only game with real effort to show the game the way it was meant to is in the Grey Cup, live it's much faster and bigger plays in tight games. CFL garbage refs and in need of joining the 21st century with instant replay to help with those ills. NFL refs are not much better that Super Bowl was the biggest joke, if I was from Seattle I would still be steamed on the calls throughout that game.
I like the CFL because it's local and I enjoy cheering for my team, NFL is not cheap and have a hard time being connected to a team in a league from another country.

I guess what it comes down to more than anything for me is that NFL involves more strategy than the CFL. You've got to be smarter to play NFL ball. That's why we get their leftovers. Our guys simply can't digest the NFL game properly.

I wouldn't go quite as far and say that the CFL players can't digest the game properly...I think it's more a factor of size, speed, skill than anything.
But - I can respect that you like how it's more of a strategy game in the NFL...that's not for me. I'd rather see a game where it comes down to players making plays than a good ol' coaching duel. That's not to say there's no strategy in the CFL - with some of the quirky rules, strategy most definitly is a part of it...but most of the game is decided by the players.

Fair enough. But I think the "digesting the game" part is true for QBs. Look at Henry Burris. Started 3 games for the Chicago Bears and just looked absolutely lost.

CFL is the game.
NFL is all hype and marketing and the games are usually ho hum run fests, where every position is so specialized and defined that there is very little room for creativity and consequent excitement.
The talent level of the CFL may be a little watered down but that makes for great football to watch. A missed tackle here a botch play there. It leads to excitement and unpredictabilty. I prefer to watch a game where they let a player like Doug Flutie shine in all his majesty by creating broken plays, thinking on the fly, going for the hail mary or the one-shoed touched down VERSUS the league where they won't even give him a chance because he is average height. What the heck kind of a league is so hung up on stereotypes that they completely missed the career of Doug Flutie because he was thought to be too short????
If the NFL gave Flutie a chance in his prime he would have been great.
The CFL did and I loved those years. I still love the CFL for the creativity, playmaking and excitement in everygame every year.
The NFL is too systematic, over coached and just plain boring.
GO Stamps Go.

That hype comment is bunk. The reason there's hype over the NFL is because it's widely considered the best football product out there. That's like saying the WHL is better than the NHL but the NHL is more hyped. Like I said, you have to have a decent product before you can create hype.
And Doug Flutie was given several chances to start. He looked good for 6 games in Buffalo and about the same amount of games with San Diego. The reason his height is mentioned has to due with sightlines for a QB. Flutie constantly had to roll out to be effective in the NFL due to the fact he couldn't see over the linemen. The other fact with Flutie is just simply didn't have a strong enough arm to make all the throws in the NFL.

I know this thread is old, that being said I can't stand the CFL. I don't even understand why people watch it. But we're all different and that's what makes it great. When people tell me though that the CFL has better athletes than the NFL, I fly off the rocker. The NFL has the best athletes everybody knows that. If someone tells me they like the CFL because it suits there style better I can understand that, that's a valid point.
I've seen both CFL and NFL games live. I won't watch any CFL games anymore, I'll only watch american college football and the NFL. I'm going to my first college game this year.
January 1st, 2007 The Capital One Bowl game in Orlando, I will be there.
I'm the biggest Miami Dolphins fan in Calgary, I got my dolphins license plate on the front and my car flag on the window. I will never miss a Dolphins game, I'll watch the Dolphins before I watch the Flames, I just love the NFL so much.
The NFL game is excellent and if the NFL wanted to make the CFL a 5 team league they could, all they have to do is put a team in Toronto and you can say good-bye to the argos, ti-cats, alouettes and the revolving door I call Ottawa.
The NFL would do extremely well in Toronto, they have the marked to support it. Unfortunately we don't, I'd love to have an NFL team in Calgary.

i know me and you(ktown) have already argued at length about the cfl vs nfl stuff so i dont want to go to far into the same thing as before, but just wanted to throw this in. i watch it becuase it is more exciting, it is played in my country, the players are of equal skill(prob more physically in the cfl and more mentally in the nfl) as players are more reactionary and dont fit into regimented schemes that are in the nfl, the games and grey cup is about the game itself, not the hype, fireworks, commericials etc, bottom line i find it more exciting with better finishes and more exciting plays with fans that are there to watch the game. its about excitement mixed in with a little patriotism, and it is the second most watched sport(the 3 down variety not including the american style) in canada for a reason.
heres a good article that was brought up in another thread.

Wow, I was the hundredth vote and it is divided 60/40 exactly.
I do prefer the CFL, although in recent years I have become more of an NFL fan. But yeah, I grew up with the CFL and I love our game.
