Ok, new Sunday night list, what I call the best betrayals or twists. These can be outright screw jobs, or just finding out that someone that was a hero is actually evil. I can only base this on things I've seen. But it includes all media, video games, movies or TV.
1) I am Revan - I thought that I would start with a video game twist that made millions of jaws hit the ground. Throughout the game you had no memory of who you were, but as you went along you found that you had jedi powers and embarked on a quest to save the Galaxy from the Sith. But at some point you hit the realization that you were one of the greatest evils in the galaxy. From there you could choose, redeem yourself, or plunge the galaxy into darkness.
2) Angel turns evil - Angel was part of the Scooby game for the first year and a half of Buffy, a Vampire that had been cursed with a soul and put on the path to redemption, on multiple occasions he had saved the life of each Scooby gang member and genuinely fell in love with the Slayer herself. However Angel and Buffy had sex, and Angel had that perfect moment of happiness and his curse was lifted and we saw a murderous psychopathic vengeful Angelus, leading to one of the most horrifying moments on TV.
3) Grant Ward betrays Shield Hail Hydra - Another hero that had gone bad, but the shock is that the show Agents of Shield really struggled in the first year and Grant Ward was a bland and heroic character. But with the magical phrase from the Captain America Winter Soldier movie "Out of the Darkness and into the Light" Grant Ward betrays Shield for his mentor in Hydra. At first he is reluctant to completely betray his friends, but later becomes unbalanced and murderous before becoming Hive.
4) Zach Addy is a Serial Killer Apprentice - Bones wasn't the greatest show on TV, but they stumbled onto a brilliant serial killer story line where they presented the Gormogon a cannibalistic serial killer then suddenly we learned that Zach Addy the shy brilliant forensic pathologist was his apprentice. in fact it was so jarring that the shows creators spent the rest of the series retconning this by making Addy basically a brain washed unwilling dupe that didn't kill anyone. It was a sad ending to a brilliant betrayal.
5) Elsa betrays Doctor Jones and Doctor Jones - I mean you could probably see this coming from an hour away. But Elsa sleeps with both Doctor Jones and tries to steal the cup of Christ. It also featured the brilliant, "This is how we say goodbye in Austria, this is how we say goodbye in Germany"
6) Anakin betrays the Jedi Order - We knew this was coming, but they almost put it to the point where any sympathy that you felt for Vader was gone as he slaughtered his friends and children, all in a quest to save his wife, and then later killed her.

My choice of movies would be "Girl on a Train" The plot twists and turns as alcoholic Rachel wakes up in a pool of blood, vomit and no memory. She then goes on a mission to determine who killed Meghan.
Yeah I thought of the Hulk Hogan turn but left it out, and I'm a huge wrestling fan. But on a side note, reality show wise the Johnny Fairplay, my grandmother died moment was the biggest I guess you'd say heel turn in the history of reality TV

This was an awesome twist/betrayal. Shocking to say the least. Never saw it coming.
'Gone Girl' has a fantastic twist, although it's more of a slow build than a sudden turn.
Anakins story was complete ####. Terrible script, terrible acting, terrible directing, building over two long, boring and just bad movies that are effectively unwatchable more than once. Actually makes the story of Anakin worse.
Revan also did nothing for me, wasn't surprised and didn't really care. Good game otherwise though, for its time.
'The Prestige' has one of the best done twists ever, it's so central to the whole film.
'Memento' has a great twist that's also a betrayal.
I quite liked the twist in 'The Others', although it's not that surprising.
'Spec Ops: The Line' has probably my favourite game plot twist. Another slow reveal instead of a sudden turn, but it turns the whole game on its head and turns an otherwise mediocre shooter into a standout among all games really.
The old double turn, even when he was at his villainous best in the Harry Potter series they were careful enough to make him sympathetic.
Plus it turns out that Harry's dad was a bit of a butthead.
Especially when reading the books, you were treated to a great whirlwind of hate/love for Snape. Up until that very last moment with him you were still guessing what side he was on.
Apparently Rowling didn't tell Rickman the truth about Snape, but told him he was hiding a secret that no one else knew.
