The Flames had far more high quality chances tonight:

And that 2nd period stretch was very dominant:

Frustrating having to see every player take the pass then have to turn their hips before they can take the shot.

I was curious about this as well. Seemed like the forwards were setting up some one timers but the defensemen weren’t willing or able too. Are one timers no longer an option with all the blocking of shots, or do we just not have those type of defensemen?

Overall that was a fun game to watch.

Solid game by the Flames, very much needed. Kulak is a player that I've been sour on but that was a very solid game by him. Time to put Tkachuk on the first unit PP in Versteegs spot. Maybe not the game to harp on this issue but I don't really think Versteeg is that effective on the PP and Tkachuk seems like a much more obvious choice in that spot.

Outshot yes, but it felt like they didn't give up many quality chances. Stats show a 3-2 edge in high danger scoring chances for Stajan and Versteeg and an even split for Brouwer.

Many other posters have said it was one of Versteeg's best games this season.

What a great game played by the Flames. Thought the top line was on fire tonight and Ferland really did not look out of place there, he played very well tonight. Not much more you can say about Gaudreau, the guy is playing some amazing hockey right now and is the Flames MVP at the moment. Just controlling the play every time he touches the puck, and rarely making mistakes in the offensive zone, for a little guy he is really hard to get off the puck.

Thought Gio played a really steady game tonight.

I haven't waded through much of the chat on the message board lately so I am sure I am not the first person to critique Sam Bennett but whoa he is playing some pretty bad hockey at the moment. I won't fault him for effort because I know he is playing hard but man there is not much to like about his game at the moment, hopefully he can turn it around but I am not seeing a whole lot of improvement from him.

Awesome and much needed win at home for the the Flames.

That's fair enough. They did seem to get hemmed in more than other lines to me, and scoring chances will tend toward shot shar over time. If they can keep up similar balances of scoring chances I won't complain

Yeah, I think people should in general have some realism for what they expect out of the 4th line. A 4th line getting outshot isn't news, pretty much by definition they're going to face a lot of lines that are just better than them.

That said, that line seriously needs someone with more speed. Maybe switch someone with the 3rd line.

Super happy for the team tonight. Way better forechecking. Really impressed with Ferland and the top line tonight. Really hope Jankowski gets to stay up.

Solid effort for most of the game. Offensively, you can see they aren't quite firing on all cylinders yet - especially on the bottom 6 - but this win I bet sure will ease a lot of tension.

The Flames played well defensively. I thought that Backlund kind of screwed up on the Washington goal, but watching from my TV, I have no idea if his initial pass back was his best option as not all the skaters were visible. Bad luck coming off the linesman like that, but also good on the Flames for having the fortitude to not let it affect them.

Sure, Washington was on a B2B. Washington is also a really good team, and Grubauer I thought did more than enough to give his team a chance to win the game. Flames worked hard. They dominated for the most part. They didn't let up. It was really great to see.

Ferland was great as mentioned. The top line as a whole played really well. I think the stars for the game tonight was the 6 defencemen. So this is what it looks like when you have 6 defencemen all playing well! I thought the Flames' D provided excellent coverage, and I think they were the big reason as to why the Flames looked dominant. 31 shots against seems a tad high for me to be praising the D, but they did a really wonderful job as a unit all over the ice. They defended really well, and just as importantly I thought they transitioned the puck really well tonight. If Kulak keeps playing this way, I think the Flames officially become the team with the best defensive corps in the league. It was 3 solid pairings tonight all over the ice. This is the vaunted defence that I couldn't wait to see since the Hamonic acquisition. Smith was really good on a couple of high danger shots, but most of those 31 shots were routine saves. He deserved that shutout tonight, and so did his defencemen.

Glad to see Kulak have a pretty solid game.

I thought the Bennett/Jankowski/Lazar line was pretty good. Only line that did little for me was the Stajan line. How Stajan is still a flame is beyond me.

Would love for tonight to be looked at as a turning point for the team.

Look, he should absoultely be sitting out more games, no question about that, and he should definitely when Jagr comes back Thursday or whenever it is. But are you serious with this part?

Let's be honest, only way to get rid of him right now is waivers or unconditional waivers. Problem is unconditional waivers has to be a mutual agreement between both GM & player.

Do you think Tre will go that route with him?

If that doesn't happen, then he ain't going anywhere.

Flames 2 Caps 1

- Great bounce back game for Lazar
- His linemates look good as Bennett finally gets some shots on goal.
- Smith is Smith
- Gaudreau is Gaudreau
- And Brett Kulak proves maybe he can boost that third pairing

I still after years have no Idea what any anylitic #### means lol. I'm a fairly young guy to. 28. I have watched 1025 games in a row. That is 12 seasons and 41 playoff games ( not including preseason or young stars) I have probably seen more but thats the farthest back I can remember ( concussions and " fun" times play a role.
Yes I have never missed a game for any reason.

The only ####ing stat that matters to me or should for any one for that matter is the score at the end. That anylitic stuff is great for the team's management but for a fan it means dick all. All I wanna see is a W.

I also think Bennett and Lazar are probably better off staying on the wing right now, and Hrivik isn't likely to be a huge upgrade.

...seems to be having a good start though. (Oh, and Mangiapane is the leading scorer in AHL? Hathaway doing well too. Nice.)
