I'm waiting still for this improved D to soundly shut down an opposing team.

(Anaheim yeah some credit, but they still peppered Smith)

Not saying they won't get there. But it's been a few weeks and I'd like to start to see it.

I thought Lack was more than good enough as a backup. Disagree entirely with those blaming him for the loss. Powerplay did next to nothing outside of some decent chances to start the 3rd but still couldn’t capitalize on the opportunities. More untimely penalties that lead to pucks in our net. Still lots of sloppy giveaways too, by Hamonic and Brody especially. This team is just not sharp yet, still.

On the bright side Janko seems to just ooze hockey IQ, I think we have a really good player in the making here. He looked to run out of gas a bit by the second half of the 3rd period but overall pretty decent game.

Broken record I know but I’m so tired of watching Stajan just dying out there. Enough already please Gully.

A 4.5M x 3Y 4th liner, but I digress

I thought Lack played great. Only one goal was suspect and be more than made up for it. This guy is a backup and hadn’t had a start since the preseason. Not sure what people expect.

They did tonight. Played a great defensive game outside the PK.

I bet the Flames dominated corsi tonight 5 on 5. Don't know how to check. I hope someone posts the stats.

I don't think Lack was that bad, but it's a huge stretch to say he was great.

Maybe because Gulutzan liked Lack from his time in Vancouver?

Yes. It's too bad that's all he has been though. Versteeg meanwhile has looked like hot garbage 5-on-5 since game 3 or 4 of the season.

I dunno, I might be a blind optimist, but I kind of like some of the things I see from the team early on. The 3M line is again very good, Gaudreau's line will be fine. The defense will just get better as the season rolls along. Smith is a stud, tonight Lack was ok.

Need to clean up the penalties and the PK. I think there might be a trade or move coming in the next few weeks if the bottom 6 continue to be a black hole offensively.

If they can find some consistency they'll be fine. There were some great stretches over the past 2 nights. Find their groove and they'll be ok.

They dominated until about halfway though the 3rd period

Corsis were something like 45-30 before then, but it ended a lot closer

Lack had a good stretch there so there is hope he can be productive.

The rationalization that his results last 2 year were due to the goalie coach have always bugged me though.

His opinion should not have sway in the GM's decisions. If so, that's dumb. Don't care who Gulutzan worked with and liked in the past, it doesn't necessarily mean they help you win.

I agree there were some good areas of play tonight. However, consistency is what separates good teams from great ones. Calgary is not a consistently good team. The only thing they do consistently is take dumb penalties.

I realize that the PP was very good in the second half of last year but it's not coming through when the team needs it right now. Gaudreau on the left side has him shooting wristers from inside the blueline a lot this year.

On the right side he makes more passes, more plays. Bah, the coaches know what they're doing it just frustrating watching them sputter - especially Versteeg. Make a play!

Lack let in one stinker otherwise I thought he was fine two shots that beat him were near perfect. Flames have no scoring support can't win most nights like that especially on the road.

What's mind boggling to me is why a goalie coach whose team went through 6 different tenders in 3 seasons under his tenure is unanimously praised......

When I hear that Sigalet has been working with one of our goalies, the last thing I'm expecting now is better results.

Smith is killing it currently because Smith is good.
