I still fail to see the whole "stand still at the line while Johnny tries to break through" zone entry for the PP
I understand to a point, the bump back is supposed to get the other team flat footed and it's ok to have a couple of our guys standing still at the blue line so after entry you can bump it back to them and set up. The problem is we need at least one more guy and ideally two who are moving in with Johnny so he has options rather than always needing to skate it in.
I might be getting ahead of myself here, but I'd really like to see Jankowski on the PP. After Gaudreau, IMO he's already our most poised player with the puck. Put him in Versteeg's spot, replace Brouwer with Jagr when he's healthy.

Seems like every time i check the score for a game we have been shut out for the first two periods.
I don't remember this being a common occurrence last year.
I guess Brad Treliving's concern about a potential lack of offense was a real concern. I personally really never imagined that would happen, but that's why he is the GM and not me.
Well, the major difference from the first to the second is that the Flames turned on their give-a-crap meter. Some good battles and hustle, and some physical play that indicates they are engaged.
They were unlucky to not score a couple times there. Good things are coming. This game is a long way from over.

Lol, the ref had his hand halfway up and then when Jonny fights through, he waves it off. That's some laughable bush league stuff. Should have still been a penalty shot since by the time gaudreau regained control he was in too tight. As blown a call I've ever seen. When put next to other calls that have been made, that guy shouldn't even be allowed to call the end of the game.

In good news, I'm sure it's been commented on already but I've liked bennett's game at wing tonight a whole lot better than he's been playing. Allows him to get out of his own head and just use his speed and attack on the forecheck.
I don't like how the bump back looks either. The problem with the complaint, though, is that they succeed in the zone entry more often than not.
Other teams have three or four consistent variations, Flames have two looks entering the zone on the power play. After that, Versteeg is loading on the right hand side when he's a right handed shooter, and it gives him a bad angle on the power play. Between that and the lack of any movement - that power play may never score again.
Monahan knows how to direct pucks towards the net, but we need a lot more than him to start finding a way this year on the power play.

Jagr did have that spot before he was hurt. Right now the only other net front options would be Ferland or maybe Frolik.

I hear the echos of this in the thread and I'll just say, when you go down as easy as Johnny does, you don't get every call. He'd already drawn two penalties at least at that point.
