I think we're crazy not to be putting Bennett on top line wing. I actually wouldn't mind swapping Johnny to RW. In the o-zone, a lot of his chances seem to come on the off wing.
I think you're both looking way to deep into the "Scrum" issue.

Does Tkachuk stir it up after the whistle? Absolutely, but no one is going to target Johnny because Tkachuk is pissing them off. Backlund and Frolik have never had to drop the mitts. They may get into a few more shoving matches than they would with someone else on their line, but no one would oppose Johnny skating away from it, and Monahan is more than capable of holding his own in a scrum.
Ferland stirs it up too, and it's exactly what people want him doing on the top line, so why oppose Tkachuk doing it, when he provides much more skill?

If anything, I'd think having Tkachuk out there with a target on his back draws more attention away from Johnny and Money, especially because Tkachuk is a dangerous offensive threat too.

Interesting to note that Bennett didn't get the bump up to the top line -- looks like he'll have to earn it starting on the third line.

Sure like the numerous options, that's a good sign. But they need to get the third line off the snide and quick.

Personally I see a Matt Tkachuk that can help a line more this year than he's been helped in the past, so maybe it's time he graduates from 3M and either pushes Monahan/Gaudreau or helps out on the third line with Jankowski and Ferland/Lazar/Versteeg.

That would free up Bennett to move to the Backlund/Frolik line and get his head right.

@Fan960Wills
Glen Gulutzan said he's never seen Mark Jankowski on wing and has seen Sam Bennett there, so Jankowski will centre line with Bennett.

Also: @Fan960Steinberg
Smith starts tomorrow in Nashville. #Flames

it sucks that a Jagr injury was needed for that. But better late than never.

that's certainly the most important thing, my concern however is that he wont be able to do it in the NHL. Hindsight being perfect, had he not burned that first year ELC on the playoff run of 2 seasons ago, he could still be moved down to the A without waiver issues. That would have been a much more palatable scenario, but it is what it is now.

I still think some time watching the game from upstairs (2 games) is a good idea for him, but management and coaching sees it differently I guess.

Zero value in sitting Bennett at this point.
See how this goes first.

Because he has played closer to someone who deserves the press box than the first line.
Take off the pressure of extra duties at center. Let him relax a bit and get it going first.
No sense adding that extra pressure right now.

Because he hasn’t earned it.

I like the idea of moving Tkachuk up and playing Bennett on 3m personally. They seem to be a great pair for nurturing a developing player.

I personally don't want Bennett on the first line wing. Plays have been dying on his stick this year. Our top line has been good, don't need Bennett to mess with that. If he can get it together on a lower line then in the future sure.

Uhh, he is. With Jankowski as the first line center.

Can't put three semi defensive liabilities on one line.

Who gets sent down when Jagr gets back?

Probably Jankowski, regardless of his performance. That's how Treliving works.
