It is a common mistake for fans to think a player's value is determined by his stats this season. This is not true as a player's value is based on the scouting reports teams have on him and the upside they think he has.
Bennett will have value because teams have scouted him and seen his skill and upside. That some of our own fans cannot see it is quite bewildering to me. A lot of fans seem to have very short memories and think what he's done in the past is irrelevant. That's not how hockey, scouting and player valuations work at all.

An interesting take by Calgary4Life. I've never before considered the possibility that Bennett could be an edgy Backlund in a year or two.
What does anyone here think of the possibility that if management sees Bennett as more of a high end 2 way player, and given Backlunds upcoming raise, it's Backlund who is more likely to be on the move?
Does Bennett have the defensive zone chops to replace even 70 percent of what Backlund brings?
Would that 70 percent plus a top flight RW that we could get for Backlund in trade set the team back, or push it forward?

Red Wings talks with Ahanasiou have picked up in the last few days, whether that ends up in a NHL deal remains to be seen.
If Kings feel they need to upgrade their top 9, they could put Muzzin or Martinez on the trade market.
Both guys would not be rentals and will draw lots of interest as not often top 4 non-rental guys become available in season.
LeBrun believes this has been discussed internally by the Kings and may be looked at again further later on in the season.
Even before injury to Niskanen, Caps are looking for d-man.
Vegas has d-men to sell
Teams are wondering what the Sabres will do Evander Kane.
His trade value is increasing
Likely will be discussing Kane trade option up until the deadline.

What are you going to do now?
I am asking because you seem bent on making this trade, but are you doing it for the sake of satisfying your prerogative or are you trying to make the team better?
Sometimes we as fans can be very reactionary based on what we see without considering the players age or development curves; Not to mention the organization has goals and objectives for the player that might not prioritize scoring goals or putting up points. I say lets be patient and not suggest a trade every time we find a new whipping boy.
|
Um never suggested we trade him just that Reinhart and Bennett are equal.
I don't want to trade Bennett. His potential is higher than what we could get back which isn't that much.

Well phrased. I think it definitely sets the team back until both of Jankowski and Bennet are able to prove something at this level. If one of them could be a scoring guy and the other guy a defensive shutdown guy, then it's essentially a push on losing Backland. Until there is proof that either guy can live up to those expectations, Backland leaving leaves this team with a gaping hole in the 2nd line, with Bennet's line currently underachieving. That leaves your roster with 1 scoring line and a 9million dollar 4th line and a pile of question marks in the middle.... Not sure how ANY RW fixes the cluster **** that ensues.

I don’t understand why someone doesn’t offer sheet athansiou. Apparently teams are interested and Detroit is cap constrained. They’d either have to take the compensation or match and be forced to make a panic deal to fit his salary in. For all the talk of how cut throat the biz is, obviously there’s some professional courtesy.

Half my friends are die hard wings fans and they can't stand him. Very bad defensively they tell me.
And if Detroit is looking to trade him something is amiss.

E. Kane is going to be interesting if he can hit 45+ towards the deadline. He's taken a lot of flak over the years but when he's performing he's a solid top 6 winger that could augment almost any club. Currently at 7 pts in 6. Contract year.
Buffalo currently has 3 pts in 6 games. Things can change fast this early but if they can't play catch-up he will be on the market.

I think Bennett took all those games sitting with and listening to Conroy about defensive responsibility to heart.
I'm not saying he's ready to replace Backlund yet.

He scores pretty highlight reel goals, but does not have much else going for him.

Nah, Stefans fast faster and harder. Daigle dwindled for a few year then flamed out.
EDIT: AND!!!! And and and!!! He sign with the Wild again many years later and played some games too!
Holy moly!! He played games with the Pens too before the Wild!!
And in 03-04, he scored 51 points in 78 game for the Wild. Insane. 20 goals that year. (which incidentally tied his career high points total from his time with the Senators)
And to think, many percieved this guy to be the biggest #1OA bust ever.
Double Edit: dude was just a titch over a .5 points per game in his career. 327 point in 616 gp. Not bad for a bust.

Yeah, I don't see what all the fuss is about Andreas Athanasiou. Not a player to get excited about for me. He has great wheels but literally nothing else at all.
Just another Viktor Stalberg basically.

Ah, but Stefan stuck it out and played a solid enough number of games to call it a career.
Daigle got bored, didn't care and flamed out sooner before realizing his acting career wasnt going to take off and wormed his way back into the league to pocket a few mill before it was too late.
So I'd say comeback not withstanding, Daigle washed out faster than Stefan, who people just kept waiting to see if he would ever achieve a fraction of his potential. Daigle had a ton of talent but couldn't have cared less.
Yakupov may yet be part of this conversation. Time will tell.
Don't get me wrong though, Stefan sucked.

True. The close up showed it wasn't really a muff by Stefan but a hop on some bad ice. But still.
Holy crap.
