Time to give Brett Kulak a go on the third pair.

Also, here's hoping Brouwer has a huge game and impresses the Canucks enough they trade for him.

Sitting behind the Flames attacking x2 net tonight in the good guys' colors. I've paid so much money over the years to watch the boys lose in this barn so it would be nice to see a statement game against a team we should be able to take two points from. Go Flames Go!

Freddie Hamilton playing is a disgrace, especially when we have Jankowski in the AHL.

You're 24 years old Dougie, time to let your big brother go.

I'll be in the nose bleeds for this one. 3 tickets 180 dollars. First game for my 3 and a half year old. Me my wife and son will be rocking the vintage colours.

I think you mean Freddie, or perhaps we should congratulate you on your new job at Sportsnet?

If it's Glass or Brouwer he's replacing I don't have a problem with it.

However if Stajan is being sat for a bad outing then yes I would get annoyed, especially since he's the one holding that last center spot.

As if Dougie's holding a gun to flames managements heads. Don't be ridiculous. Nothing wrong with letting a prospect like Jankowski continue to hone his skills in the pros. Looking at some of the guys coming up in Detroit, Frk and Mantha, whom are starting to put it together after endless years down there with good numbers who should've been called up after 1 year - according to your logic. Look at them now. Guys like Freddie are placeholders for these up and comers. Freddie is a fine fourth liner and does a sufficient job in the odd game he plays.

Coach Gulutzan confirms Mike Smith starts.
I don't like it. Smith has been the team MVP through the first 5 games, no doubt, but he's had injury problems the last two years, and has had a couple of twinges in recent games. Playing him back-to-back this early in the year, with (relatively) little riding on the game, isn't worth the risk.

If you don't trust Lack to play against the Canucks, you better get a new backup, because this is the ideal time to use your #2.

I'd love to see Kulak get a chance too but the only logic healthy scratch would be Bartowski, but he doesn't deserve to be a healthy scratch unless Kulak is absolutely heads and tails better in practices. Bartowski is receiving unfair criticism from many posters here on CP. He has been playing quite well for a 6th defenseman and deserves to stay in.

I think many teams make a mistake by starting their back ups against perceived weaker teams. Those are two points that you need as badly as any. With a long break coming up starting Smith to try to maintain a solid start to the year seems like a good decision

Yep, exactly this, especially after a loss. I think you go to the back up if you win the first one, but getting a "back up" performance that loses you the "easy" game right after you just lost is too risky, imo.

Smith might be old, but the season is young, he's unlikely to feel tired at this point. If Smith is feeling good, no reason to not go with him, especially with the rest coming.

I just don't know what to expect. I have such a lack of confidence in this coaching staff. It seems like such a no brainer to move Bennett to the wing (preferably with Johnny and Monny) and bring Jankowski up to the big club. Why are we not putting our best possible lineup on the ice every night?
