I thought Bart was one of our better players through the first 40. If you expect kulak to outplay what Bart has this far, prepare to be disappointed

Score definitely favoured Ottaw. That wasn't a 6-0 game.

Aside from the game though, as someone who pays and invest a lot of Time to be a season ticket holder, that reffing was total garbage. Even if the flames were the team benefitting I will not be investing my Time and money to watch a special teams game for over half the game and 50 players get kicked out of the face off. If that's the standard going forward, my time as a NHL fan is coming to an end.

As a fan I can't tell why players are being kicked out of the face-off circle most of the time. Seems random to me.

I absolutely hate the new face off rule. Just drop the friggin' puck you clowns. There wasn't anything wrong with it before.

What is the new face off rule?

Also what is the new stick rule? I am super confused at these seemingly weak calls.

Teams would be better off sending a winger to take every face off and purposely get him kicked out so that centre can then take the face off after the linesman have made their point.

New face off rule as I understand it has to do with the cross hatch. The hash marks that run parallel and perpendicular have to be observed. Both teams must stay on their side to equalize the drop. NHL believes this all lead to more goals by making the face-off a better contest.

Glad if anyone else can elaborate.

Man I thought the face offs were bad before, like hurry the f*** up and drop it already, who cares if his skate is a quarter inch too far ahead. But I guess the refs rose to the challenge of making the game as boring and lame as ever. Not that I'm blaming the refs for the loss. Flames started out good then sputtered out when they couldn't get a bounce and kind of gave up. Oh well, still better than the stupid greasy lottery winners.

Twice the Flames played a Canadian teams and got shutout. I hope that trend doesn't continue tomorrow night.

In the 3 Flames games that I saw so far, for whatever reason linesman always kicked Backlund out. I don't get it. Then tonight's game I can't remember who it was (I believed Stajan), Ottawa guy put his stick down first then he reacted but linesman kicked the Flames player out.

Way too many penalties by the Flames. That stick rule is pretty stupid. I don't get how Hamilton get that slashing penalty in the 2nd period. I can see it if the player try to hit the player's stick close to the hand. How long are the refs going to keep calling it? I hope they don't call those stick penalties on one game then stops for a few games. Just be consistent.

As for Flames plays. There are a few times that Flames tried to be cute with passing instead of shooting the puck. This is not the same Flames team who played in California. Maybe they are tired or just tried to rely on Smith too much and forget that they need to score. Whatever their reasons are, should change starting tomorrow. They need to start playing discipline hockey and avoid penalties. I am sure Flames will rebound and win against the Canucks. Eddie Lack will be Canuck fans #1 enemy tomorrow night.

Well we did beat Winnipeg after being shutout, so survey says we beat the canucks. Maybe they were just saying their goals for the Vancouver game.

-Bennett would be better suited for the wing
-Janko could help this team and should have a prominent role here

All of these issues can be fixed with a few tweaks as follows:

-Move Tkachuk up to the 1st line with Johnny and Monny. He played RW with 2 very similar players in junior in Marner and Dvorak and if this works it would give the flames a lethal top line

-Move Bennett to the wing with Backlund and Frolik. I believe Bennett's offensive game could really take off on the wing and this line could be very similar to the 3M line currently

-Call up Janko and put him in as the 3rd line C. Janko with Jagr and either Versteeg or Ferland could be a very effective line that could create off the cycle game very well.

Lines would look like:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Tkachuk
Bennett - Backlund - Frolik
Versteeg/Ferland - Janko - Jagr
Versteeg/Ferland - Stajan - whoever

You're welcome Gulutzan.
This is really intriguing. Love the first 2 lines but idk if you can expect Janko to step in as a third liner right away. But i think it could be something we should look at

Put together another 3 game win streak and this loss doesn't even matter. we're 3-2...I'll take that....and I'll take being 6-4 after 10 games and so forth.

You got the feeling last night as Calgary was buzzing but not putting anything past Anderson that it was going to bite them in the butt. Calgary deserved a couple of goals last night but it was just one of those games. They are taking too many penalties for sure but I think Gulutzan will get that straightened out.

Shake it off and work harder next game. Be better Flames.

How long did Lazar play on the first line? Saw they put Jagr up there midway through the first; things seemed to go in a blender after that.

The other thing I noticed especially last night were all the forced passes... shoot the puck already!

Our 3 man cycle is really ineffective. We really need to use our defencemen as more than cookie cutter point shots. Our cycle was so much more dangerous under Hartley with D crashing the slot.

Hartley's passive systems defensively were flawed but we didn't need to change everything that was working.
