Too much impatience shown by some in this thread. Bennett was rated #1 in his draft year by CSS and Redline because he has a 2nd line centre upside right? His skill and potential didn't disappear. All players are different and not all players are finished products at age 20. Talk of his upside being limited is ridiculous. Give the kid some time and show some patience. Most players don't peak by age 20.

Nail Yakupov went 1st overall. What's his ceiling? Throw that argument out the window because 2014 is 100% irrelevant now.

He's entering his third year in the NHL. He showed very little growth from year one to two, in fact he may have regressed even. I know points aren't everything but they do tell a lot. So far this year he hasn't shown that he's taken the next step.

Look, I like Sam Bennett, I think he can be an effective player, but it's time to face the reality that he's probably not going to be the top line forward he was once projected to be. That's fine, not all high picks reach their ceiling.

30 goals isnt just 30 goals.

By your crackpot logic 2 15 goal scorers are the same as 1 30 goal scorer...so that means if we had 2 monahans and they each scored 15 you would be ok with paying them 3.25 per year?

Just because a player scores 30 doesnt mean he is in the same class as all other 30 goal scorers. Bringing up mcdavid and kopitar is pure stupidity.

You dont pay for just the goals. Centers are supposed to drive the play. Be capabe defensively. Be physical. Get ASSISTS.

You lot pretent like monahan is some 30 goal 70 assist 2 way physical shut down center who has elite playmaking ability.
