How did that team ever make the playoffs?

I mean, that lineup is totally inaccurate.

Where's David Jones?

Things went as well as they possibly could in a lot of areas. A few players had great years. Gaudreau/Monahan/Hudler were at peak as a line. Russell and Wideman had their best years as Flames. Hiller and Ramo were each good at the exact right times.

As much flak as Hartley got at the end. I do wonder how that style would have worked out with a capable netminder like Smith during the Tkachuk draft year.

I liked that store of heart attack hockey under Hartley. I don't think I had more fun watching the Flames dipsy dangle doodle all over the place.

Not sure what thread to put this question in so I thought I'd put it in here.

Is Ryan Leslie the permanent host on Flames broadcasts now? What happened to Roger Millions?

I'm wondering how Gulutzan will attack Boucher's 1-3-1. This tactic is all about the counter attack.
My guess is the patient puck management game, with getting the puck deep and trying to open up space with the cycle game.
This will be a mental test for the Flames to not try and be too fancy to entertain the fans. This is one time where I won't mind the dump in.

On a side note, I remember a game where the Babcock Wings took on Boucher's Lightning. The Wings broke out of their end with four guys back in puck support and one winger way up ice keeping the Lightning occupied.

This way, with four guys coming up together the Wings were able to easily move the puck past the first guy and outnumbered the 3 as well. They just did short passes around the Lightning and with the Wings 1 guy up ice it created havoc to the Lightning's structure.

It was a thing of beauty to watch all those short passes gain the zone.

I was about to fix your post to say "second round of the playoffs", but then I realized it's because Vancouver.

That team had Lady Luck on their side when it came to bounces. 10 3rd period comebacks. I was at a game vs NJ where they scored not 1 but 2 empty net goals to force OT where they won the game.

That team had a ridiculous third period goal differential and scored more goals for when the goalie was pulled vs against.

That team had a magic about them that was so fun to watch.

TBQH that was pretty much never the lineup.

It was more like (going off of memory here so likely still not 100% accurate)

1st Half
Glencross-Monahan-Byron
Gaudreau-Jooris-Hudler
Ferland-Granlund-Setoguchi
Bollig-Bouma-Baertschi

2nd Half(/Playoffs)
Gaudreau-Monahan-Hudler
(Bennett/)Raymond-Backlund-Colborne
(Ferland/)Bouma-Stajan-Jones
Bollig-Granlund-Jooris

I honestly think picking up David Schlemko was one of the biggest factors in us making the playoffs that year though. Our 3rd pairing of Schlemko-Diaz had this wierd dominance against 4th lines etc that stole us some huge games. The opposite of The Bartkowski Effect.

Accoring to Ricardodw it had the greatest defensive pairing in Flames history in Wideman and Russell. How could it NOT make the playoffs?

I can't embed tweets but Leslie said today he is the host of Flames road games for the whole season. I assume Roger will work all the home games, or someone else will.
