As a former Usher at the Saddledome, seeing people fall from the 3rd level onto people in the 2nd level.

Inverted seating?? yikes, I hope no one slips.

Haha really? I've always wondered if that happens. I guess you could just make beer 25$...

Doesn't the new Little Caesar's arena in Detroit have some seating that is somewhat similar? Something about Gondola seating?

Looking at it more and more, I'm not actually sure how the upper rows of seats would have anything other than a terrible view, and am liking the idea less and less each time I look at it.

I mean, you might get closer (? you do go higher to allow the spacing) but that is one steep angle. Not exactly a comfortable way to watch.

There's graphics on their website depicting sightlines for each level. One of the big issues I can see with this design is with concert setups. Typical setups in the middle of the arena is a pretty big footprint, and not very high off the ground as it drops props for the show. The current arena format has the upper levels farther away from the stage so the sightlines would clear the stage setups. This would become an obstruction for the higher levels in this design. Can't expect shows to custom design for this setup, we would have the same problem as today with the dome not handling existing setups compatible with the rest of the world.

I don't think it would be that bad. Probably would be similar to the press box in the saddledome right now. If it is good enough to call a game from that angle, watching should be just fine.

Staples Center in LA has kind of a similar concept; this project is rather old though by modern arena design standards. It's almost 20 years old now.

My major problem with this concept is that I strongly suspect that all of these fancy new shallow stacked levels are going to be premium club seats, boxes, etc.

If so, people currently in the Whites, Oranges, Greens, and Blacks will get a major downgrade in game experience, and will be moved, 50+ feet straight upwards, above all the new stacked seats to a place in the stadium that will feel like the current press level (same distance from the ice as the current press level, but higher up instead of away. They will be steep, crowded, and tucked under the roof and will have second-rate concourse amenities).

There will also be some seats that are worse than anything we have in the dome currently (we don't have press level height seats in the ends of the arena).

When your team is sucking badly and you have your head down in your beer, you can still see everything!

IMO you can argue they may be the best seats in the house seeing you would be right on top of the ice and from a video game like angle where you can see both ends without any obstruction or angles getting in the way. I have sat pretty well everywhere at the dome and I feel my brother's seats right at the front of section 305 on center ice are amongst the best seats for watching the game. My only gripe with those seats is that due to the roof sloping in the middle you kind of feel a little isolated from the other side of the crowd but as far as watching the game goes you can see everything perfectly as well of being high enough up to see a lot of plays develop earlier than say in the bottom bowl where your angle means you are focusing more on where the puck is than what's happening up ice.

This is exactly why I love the first row of the PL's. Kind of funny as you sometimes yell out players names when they are open just before the play goes that way.

Players first name, I assume.

A downgrade for the value seats is inevitable. In any concept, best case scenario we miiight get Orange pricing. Likely closer to white/blue pricing.

A new arena is not for the benefit of creating good value for fans. It's about creating optimal revenue and keeping up with the league to match escalating salaries and the cost associated with arm's race of hiring top management talent. I am fine with paying less in the Saddledome because I am cheap, but long term (10+ years) the team will need more revenue to stay competitive as costs continue to rise.

Spoiler!

That seems rather small given the potential expense, no?

At least we have some sort of potential concept to discuss now!
It's so efficient, I bet the owners could just build it on their own.
