For a team that is usually so poor out of the gates, great to see them start 3-1, even with the warts we've seen.

Ferland can be much better. Verteeg has been a giveaway machine on the PP. The team really stopped skating in the 2nd.

On the plus side, Smith has been unbelievable. Brodie is off to a great start offensively. A sweep in Ana/LA is awesome.

Some good, some bad, but at 3-1 for a team that is usually brutal to start the year I'll take it.

Oh yeah, Jagr is on the team. Can hardly wait until he's in form.

Also last note on Tkachuk, he seems to be looking for his shot a lot more which I thought was the most underutilized part of his game because he does have a hard shot. Think he could get 25+ this year

7 points in 4 games for Gaudreau. Only trails Ovechkin and Kuznetsov, by one (tied with Point, Saad, and Schwartz).

- Flames come from behind
- Brown and Giordano still hate each other
- Jagr looks good on the wall
- Tkachuk sticks it to Doughty with 2 goals
- Smith still standing tall

Coach isn't wrong. The difference is the goalie bailing them out. A goalie can mask some deficiencies. The good news is they are winning and they can play better.

Our shots on goal have been high each game but the NHL has changed how they are to be counted to get more consistency. Any puck that would have went in the net is now a shot on goal even if it is an iced puck or slowly trickling towards the net. Most games are going to have higher SOG this year. But, we still need to tighten up. Smith has been awesome.

Great to see the team grab the win. There's areas that need work but just goes to show how difficult we are to play when we have two or three lines rolling.

Really, really glad to hear this. Lots of work defensively to do. At least they're not burying their heads in the sand with Smith standing tall. If they clean things up in their own end it should be a fun year.

edit: missed 'not' burying their heads

While we await the ATL, this gem from HF Oil:

I hate to say it but the Oilers could sure use someone like Tkachuk on their team right now .

I'm not saying he's better than Puljuiarvi it's WAYYY too early but I can't help but notice Tkachuks tenacity.
He must be the head scout.

Every team needs a pest. Tkachuk is like a more talented Ville Nieminen.

Good thing about the defense issue is we have a goaltender used to getting shelled. Having Smith on his game early and bailing out the team now is HUGE. Perhaps later the teamay need to bail him out but that's a fret for much later down the road.

Agreed. And to your other comment above. I agreed with as well. I think a positive thing is that the while the Flames are 3-1, they haven't really played their best yet. A few things to improve on. Especially in our own zone as Gulutzan said. Good times ahead if the Flames can build on their game. Jagr getting into form, Jankowski coming up perhaps too... Could be good.

The patience Brodie showed on the OT winner beside the net was beautiful. Keeps Quick out the side of the crease, waiting for Monahan to get to the front of the net.
