Maybe certain teams will get the message that their ticket prices are just too ridiculous for your average fan to purchase.

Sportsnet could at least credit the tweet they stole the story from. They could have also actually done some research. When I saw this on Reddit this morning, there was only about 50 seats available. The Habs are in no danger of not selling out.
The Flames actually had far more tickets available on the morning of Friday's game. They all sold.

I'm not on reddit, but I assume these are the seats that are the player holds, and are released each game day if they are not purchased by the teams.

Take it for what its worth, last night I was on Ticketmaster and there were still tickets for Jagar and the Flames at the Bell Center on December 7th.
Not sure if that is typical but I was surprised at all the options.

Was the Flames home opener a sell out? I knew the Flames were giving out a lot of free PL home opener tickets during the pre-season.

There is a lot of things to do in Montreal aside from hockey, if the Habs falter this year, there will be many tickets available every night except when people visit from Boston and Toronto.
It is not like Toronto, they do require a winning team to attend in Montreal.

So did the Habs sell out last night? What was the Flames announced attendance on Saturday against the Jets? I would assume 19,289?
Seriously, these ticket prices are ridiculous. I know all about supply and demand but the NHL has priced me out of the market. With three kids, I can only afford to go to pre season and Hitmen games.
I used to go to about 2-3 games a season. Unfortunately, those days are long gone. Hopefully when my mortgage is paid off in 26 years, I can go to more games. LOL

Since the lockout, average ticket price (~40% driver of league revenue) has risen from $43 to $62 (2014-15 numbers - obviously more now).
The only results? A higher salary cap and lower attendance. And the cycle repeats.

How many of the tickets are re-sells. I don't think the NHL or team cares if they sell the ticket and it isn't used.

On Stubhub right now, you can get tickets to next week's game against Carolina for as little as us$6 each in the 300 level, and us$23 in the 200 level. This Friday's game against Ottawa likely would have been as cheap, except for the Jagr home debut anticipation.

Doesn't matter. It's a sell-out if the tickets are all distributed, regardless of how they are distributed.

When Stubhub is selling tickets for half of what the Flames are selling them for, then that's a pretty telling symptom that pricing is off.

Which means increased revenues though, which is what the owners really care about (as they should as a business owner).
If decreasing tickets prices 20% increases attendance by only 15%, that's a bad business deal (other than ancillary revenue of course).
We can assume that the price of tickets is predicated upon the highest achievable revenues.
