I stream through the NHL app on my Xbox and it works great. Living in Vancouver, I've had this included for free with my Rogers cellphone plan and has been great for me being out of market.

This is exactly what I do in Victoria. GC stream from phone to tv via ChromeCast. Works great for me.

Are you also limited with your playback controls. Such as skip back 10 seconds. Or pausing or rewinding?

Are you also limited with you playback options? It seems I am only able to stop it. I cannot pause, rewind or fast forward. Otherwise it is so much clearer than when streaming straight from my computers internet browser.

Yes, sadly, I am as well. I prefer the clarity more than being able to rewind, etc.

The browser playback is 720p and has a framerate cap I believe as opposed to the Chromecast which is 1080p. I've been a GCL subscriber for a few years and only last year did I start using my Chromecast 2 for GCL. Big big difference. In looking for a way to get the proper full HD full frame rate stream on my computer, I found out that there used to be a plugin for Kodi but it is no longer around. Wasn't worth all the BS trying to get it to work.

This is what I do as well. NHL app from my iPhone to Chromecast to my tv.
Drives me nuts that I can't skip/go back 30 seconds to get through the breaks faster, but other than that, it's pretty good.

Last season I ran it through the Eracknophobia add-on in Kodi, the picture was incredible, no stuttering, no buffering pauses. It seemed to work really well. This season, I can't seem to get it to load any games, so I've been stuck with the crappy browser version, which is unwatchable regularly. Phone/tablet app is better, but no PVR controls?

If a fellow were using a vpn blocker and couldn't get chromecast to recognize the adjusted vpn, is there anything that could be done?

No, unfortunately no controls. The picture is far superior though. I just wish I had thought to do this a couple seasons ago. What I do as a type of fail safe is have the game streaming on my pc and if I have to pause the game I hit pause and switch to my computer stream until I have caught up to being live. Then I switch back to chromecast. It is far from ideal but gets the job done.

I don't have any experience with this but couldn't you just turn of your vpn blocker for the duration of the game and then turn it back on after?

I have gamecenter through being a Rogers customer and the quality is very good.
My only issue is with pretty much all streaming options. Gamecenter/other streaming options have have a delay of about ~45 seconds behind Live TV and this is such a big issue if you have score alerts on your phone. Even if you don't, it's a weird feeling that you're on a delay.
That's the reason why I always subscribe to Center Ice as I want to watching the action Live and I use gamecenter on my laptop as a screen to watch a second game or use the multi-view option to keep an eye on multiple games. Also, clicking and viewing goals is very easy.
TLDR version:
Love gamecenter but don't like the delay from Live TV. I wonder if future technology can get rid of the delay or reduce it to a minimum.

I turn off notifications anyway. If you can get past being 45 sec or so behind, I think you should be able to stream a game on your computer and one through the app. I have been able to stream 2 different games for a long time now.

Nhl.tv Kodi addon is also a fantastic option to stream in best available quality, if you have a streaming box to install it on.
Archived games going back a couple years as well as highlight, extended and full game replays.
But yeah, no pause ff or rewind.
Requires your NHL.tv / GCL credentials.

Google NHL.tv Eracknaphobia and results will return guides on how to install. Works fantastic. 60 fps, 5k+ bitrate

From what I have seen NHL streaming is pretty decent off an Apple TV. Be happy with what you have and just prey that DAZN never gets the NHL rights.

Had same problem. Just uninstall and reinstall from his repo and all is good again.
