Yes but they need to trade one of those Dmen and they can't wait forever doing it.

Bartkowski is on a Two-way and Stajan retained at only 1 year left gives them a ready body to take on big minutes at center ice for them. McPhee is going to realize that playing nice at the expansion draft didn't earn him any favours and look at where it has him now.

Give us Stoner even though he is currently IR ~ We will throw in a prospect like Pollock who had a good camp and retain some salary on Stajan to boot.

Something like:
To Vegas:
Bartkowski ~ Two-way, keeps them stable in the minors on D (Flames are paying 612,500 for Bart)
Stajan ~ 15 % retained (3,125,000 becomes 2,656,250 / Flames pay 468,750)
Pollock

Money out for Flames ~ 2,656,250 + 612,500 [3,268,750]

To Flames:
Stoner (IR)

Money in for Flames ~ 3,250,000 + 468,750 (retained) [3,718,750]

This is a win win for both clubs and helps McPhee start to gain some traction as a GM; he needs to make a trade happen and doing one with a guy like Treliving would be good for him ~ especially one that is as good for both sides as this one would be.

We will never be able to trade him, just like Wideman

Bench him and strip that damn A off of Brouwer. One of my favorite parts of opening night players intros was how absolutely silent the Dome was when his name was announced. Well deserved snub.

Were you at the Dome on opening night?

I saw someone on Twitter make a similar claim but they said they were watching on TV. It didn't sound like there was a loud cheer for Brouwer when he came out but I couldn't really tell if it was silent.

I'm not trying to challenge you on this but I'd love to hear what people thought who attended the game.

I was at the game and I did notice that as well. Even Tanner Glass had a cheer.

I'm not surprised. He doesn't have history with the team and his season last year was completely underwhelming.

It's easy for those of us who overanalyze the team to get down on a particular player. I was kind of curious if the average fan has soured on him as much as most of us have.

He got the golfclap treatment. Silent treatment seems a wee harsh lol.

I heard boos in my section and it was extremely quiet when he was announced.

I mean... geez. That's a little rough - but he's failed to live up to his billing. I can understand being disappointed.

I'm sure Brouwer feels it too. I just wish he would compete out there the way Lazar is hungry and competing, I could live with an effective but unsparing Brouwer. The skating around the ice like a shadow thing gets old really quick.

I said this earlier today though... Stajan and Brouwer look like boat anchors back there on the 4th line, and likely Jankowksi-Mangiapane-Hathaway would be as effective as Glass-Stajan-Brouwer. BUT - That's the kind of depth you need to win in the long term. As soon as the injuries pile up we'll be thankful we have such outstanding depth.

Yeah I definitely heard a few boos in there. Pretty much the only guy no one cheered for. Even the other 4th line guys got a small cheer.

Maybe another Matt Stajan situation where despite his horrible contract, he might be able to settle into a regular 4th line role and contribute in his own way. Just keep him out of regular top 9 duty.

I mean, $4.5 million for a 4th line player is bad (especially when we still have Stajan around), but I'll still take it over a $4.5 million AHL player.

He’s going to be overpaid for the duration of the contract but if he plays 12 min a night on the fourth line then we cant be too mad. He is a helluva fourth line player, thankfully this team is deep enough to justify him being there. I think the biggest problem with Brouwer to fans, beyond his salary, is that it seems the team has been shoehorning him into playing a bigger role than his play would merit. Hopefully they just accept that they way overpaid and use him the way they did tonight.

Thought he was still bad tonight. Couldn't capitalize on a Gaudreau pass and struggled to get the puck out of the zone in the first, which lead to their first power play.

I guess after the first he played well. Seems to be a decent penalty killer at least

He played well tonight. He is never going to be worth the contract we have him but that's not his fault. I'll be content if he played like he didn't tonight for the rest of the season. Who knows he might even get better.

I thought the difference tonight was that Brouwer actually seemed to give a damn. He had a bit of jump in him and the 4th line had some good shifts cycling the puck. I like the comparison to Stajan, because it's such a similar situation and it's probably the road to redemption for Brouwer.

Brouwer made a beautiful pass in the 3rd while killing a penalty that Smith had to bail him out on. Tape to tape in the slot to an Anaheim player. He does more damage then good for the team. Time to waive and admit the failure.
