TJ is one of my favourite players to watch, so I was annoyed at all the vitriol after game 1. Needless to say, TJ responded -- ditto for Johnny. The third period chants were awesome -- well done C of Red.
Smith was solid -- even after giving up three, he shut the door the rest of the way (with the help of a goalpost).
Also happy to see Ferland get one on the PP. I don't know if Jagr will end up taking that spot but I'd much rather see 79 versus 36.
Thought Lazar showed good jam in the first period and really used his speed well after they swapped Versteeg and Johnny. I hate to be a Debbie Downer but I'm not sure he has enough "finish" to play on Johnny's line, but it does give us some options if Gulutzan wants to shuffle things around.
Two negatives tonight were:
1) D-zone breakouts -- I know things are different this year with Mike Smith in net but after the slow start last year with players learning the "new" system, I'm absolutely astounded that they would do something new again this year with the slap pass off the boards into the neutral zone. They're thinking too much and as a result they're not as effective.
2) Zone entry on the first PP unit. It's become too predictable, especially when Versteeg passes it to Johnny every.single.time. It literally cost us a goal tonight, and Johnny is left having to go 1 on 3 just to get the puck in.
Overall, happy to see them come back against a good Jets team (with the exception of Mason -- yikes). Thought if we could hold Laine to two we had a chance (lol).
PS. That was a fun game at the old barn, stupid new arena be damned.

This and at only 22 he lost a full year of development due to having Mono.
I haven't seen Lazar enough before he came to Cgy to really speak to his development curve, but I can certainly vouch that Mono at that age can really knock you down in energy for many months, well after 'recovering' from the sore throat and everything else.
Brodie and Gaudreau have incredible games as the Flames win 6-3 over Winnipeg
Nice moment at the end when Brodie was coming off. First Hamilton offers him to let stay on, Brodie shakes him off and heads to the bench. Gio skates over and practically drags Brodie onto the ice for one last try for the hat trick. The crowd loved it

Gotta say this was the first time I've seen an entire crowd go dead silent for the Moment of Silence for Vegas/Edmonton. Props to all the Fans tonight for showing some respect and not yelling during it.

I watched him a fair bit in juniors and Sens games as a buddy of mine is a Sens fan and we have a known Sens bar I would frequent.
Lots of bottem 6 time for him in the big league . It doesn't suit his game . you have to get him with fast skilled players or his game is not effective.
He is one of those players you have to let "go big or go home " roles. You have to go all in with his style of play like tonight. If not they need to do the kid a favour and send him to a team that will.

Brodie was incredible. It was like he remembered during that PK that "oh yeah, I can just outskate everybody here" and blew through 2 Jets to create that 3-on-2 shorthanded.
That move he made on Johnny's goal made my pants tight.

I can empathize. Both teams have been let down by terrible goaltending over the last few years. Neither fanbase quite knew what the new additions would do.
2 games into the season, the stories couldn't be more different. But I feared that our season would start a lot more like yours.

That's awesome, did anybody catch that on the broadcast?
Really enjoyed the last half of the game - as with all things in life, consistency is the key to success. Most young players would undoubtedly have problems with this, but that's what separates elite vs. average players...and what comes with experience and time.
I think it's important to remember that even some players who we think have turned the corner can still lose their way sometimes. Really rooting for all our players to build a good head of steam, get into a good rhythm and rock out the net 80+ games with the consistency of a high level of play that we know that they can play at.
Glad Lazar got real look tonight. He whiffed some chances but I find great solace in the fact he was in the right spot to get them. It's definitely a step in the right direction. The.worst thing to happen for Lazar is to pull the plug. He showed real well tonight. Those chances will keep coming and he will get the hands back to get off those shots. Keep feeding him until the horse is dead IMO.
Beyond pumped to finally see Gaudreau/Bennett. They need it. And I feel Monahan can beef up other players and still score.
Redemption for Brodie after that awful game #1. Glad to see it was a blip.
