Default Notre Dame back in the thick of things!!!

Notre Dame's season has certainly been frought with bumps but with a sure win coming up can they zip right back into contention with a win over USC?

Ohio State and Michigan meet so there will only be one undefeated team of note. I guess for Notre Dame's sake they hope Ohio State beats Michigan and then they beat USC and they would be 11-1 and having just beat the number four team(if they stay there) would they be right there for a matchup against Ohio State?

Man I can't wait to the USC game -- should be another good one.

But what about Rutgers? (Someone had to say it). Who's better, a 12-0 Rutgers team that defeated West Virginia and Louisville, or an 11-1 Notre Dame, USC, Florida, or Arkansas team? It's a pretty tough argument to make for any of these teams. Of course, Rutgers will be a moot point if they can't beat West Virginia.

I guess we all just have to hope that the winner of Michigan-Ohio State wins the National Championship again, or else we have more conflict with the entire BCS system (I actually like the system).

A 1 loss USC or SEC team is miles ahead of Rutgers based on strength of schedule alone. Rutgers needs a miracle to get into the title game IMO

Not so fast, my friend.

Pre-season we had people arguing that an undefeated WV or Louisville team, whose only tough game was each other, had a national title shot. Now all of a sudden an undefeated Rutgers team who defeated two tough teams in WV and Louisville has no shot?

Like I said, it's a pretty tough argument to make either way, but right now I'd say give Rutgers the shot.

As much as I would love to see the Irish beat USC... OK, let's assume they put the beat down on USC (Must be 7+ point win)...

Ohio State or Michigan would need to lose badly this weekend to drop out of the #1 and #2 spot. In a close game, they stay #1 (winner), #2 (loser).

USC would drop behind ND with a 7+ point loss.

Florida is still a hurdle at BCS #4. They are in no danger of losing to Western Carolina this weekend or Florida State next weekend.

Florida does have Arkansas (assuming they don't choke this weekend at Miss. St.) in the SEC Championship. If they lose that game then Notre Dame will still have a good shot. Of course, so will Rutgers and Arkansas in that case as well.

3-7 all have a realistic chance of finding their way in. I highly doubt we see a Michigan-Ohio State rematch for the national championship - it's pretty difficult for a team who didn't win their own conference to get a crack at the national title. At least I hope so anyways...

Two very good weekends of football coming up: this weekend has the obvious Mich/OSU, but USC/Cal is pretty important as well. Then the weekened after has USC/Notre Dame and a pretty important (and overlooked) game in Arkansas/LSU as well. Arkansas could close the season with two victories against the top 10 teams (LSU and Florida in the SEC Championship). If anyone head of them stumbles Arkansas could find their way into the big game.

Even though they don't deserve it, I hope Rutgers gets in. Then OSU will absolutely slaughter them ... I'll be there cheering " 65! 66! 67! And More! And More! And More!!!"

I think Rutgers deserves a look. Louisville was last week and WVA was #3 earlier. The BCS doesn't really make a lot of sense if they say "these two can be #3, but the team to beat #3 doesn't deserve it."

Wow, I didn't know there were other Buckeye fans on here. I'm still on edge, as I find out later today if I have tickets to tomorrow's game. I'm so freaking excited.

GO BUCKS!

on another note, I really don't like the media attempt to make a star out of Brady Quinn. Seriously, I don't think he is all that great of a QB. Notre Dame seems to me to be a lot like the Leafs in their national exposure. You either love them or absolutely hate them. That being said, can both Notre Dame and USC lose against each other? Please?
